A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Faster - This is the one with The Rock and it was pretty good. Has a good twist that I usually figure out but didn't quite get it so was surprised.

Blue Valentine - Liked it, didn't love it. I had a lot more appreciation for it after watching "the making of" on the dvd, those always fascinate me.

Just finished watching this. If I want to see two people get divorced, I'll walk around the city for a while. What a blah movie. I'm all for realism and I don't need a happy ending, but at least a little more than someone could get from just following a few people around for a week would be good.

I hated Faster. There was no point to having the assassin. The twist was worse then a M. Night Shyamalan movie. And the ending was very anti-climatic.

Moon - pretty good movie. Great performance by Sam Rockwell. Almost struck me as a good episode of outer lmits rather than a full length feature but it was still a good watch.

Teeth - decent movie. LMAO If I would have seen this when I was 13 or so I would have been scared to death of sex. It was decent for the black comedy/horror blend of style it was aiming for.

Have you seen Six Feet Under? It's one of my most favorite shows of all time. The pilot episode of that show was awesome.
Quote from Monkfish :
Iagree The first few seasons were great. It kind of petered out after that, but the series finale episode has to be one of the best drama finales ever.

Weeds is probably my top "Why am I still watching this show?" It stopped being funny 3 seasons ago and it's not a very good drama.

Also, if you like the idea of one story that lasts the entire season, check out the first season of "Murder One."

Actually, Six Feet Under was probably the one show that shocked the hell out of me during its final season. I never thought they would do something until the finale and they did it half way through the season!
If you haven't seen Dead Like Me, I highly recommend it. People who like Six Feet Under usually like Dead Like Me too. Great TV series but the movie not so much. It's available on instant watch on Netflix.

Great movie even if you aren't into F1 or racing.

It's finally going to be released here on August 12. Whee

Did you watch the Dead Like Me movie? I was a huge fan of the series. I wish they would have more shows like that.

Yes, the movie wasn't as good. Too much time had passed and they couldn't get the writers or a lot of the original cast together for it. It's watchable but not as good as the series. It's on Netflix instant watch too.

Have you watched Reaper? It's pretty good.

You know I did. I was disappointed when it got cancelled. I really liked the angle of both of these shows. Got anything else to throw my way?

I haven't watched it but a lot of people who liked the shows already mentioned also like Pushing Daisies. I just added it to my instant watch queue. Not in the same genra but Better Off Ted had a similar quirkiness and was really funny. There was one episode involving motion sensors where I laughed so hard, I couldn't catch my breath.

I haven't heard of Better off Ted. Pushing Daisies was a really good show.

Mad Tell me about it.

I'm still made they canceled Dead Like Me. If you have Netflix, go watch Better Off Ted on instant watch. It's really good.

I did look it up. Apparently the only way you can see the last two episodes are via Netflix etc.

Ted worked for a company called Veridian Dynamics. At the start of each episode of Better Off Ted, they would have a fake commercial for Veridian Dynamics. Check these out.

Those were the best part of the show.

Pushing Daisies was great! That show won sooo many awards. It could have gone in so many fun and creative directions but after 1 season of the pie shop and typical flashbacks it got a bit dull for me.

Phonebooth - Can't stand Colin Farrell. It's NY for crying out loud. Why would you even pick up a ringing phone muchless stay on the line for several exchanges before they tell you they know you? Duh.
