A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

"Skyfall" - A good Bond film - so much better that the 80s and 90s stuff. 3.5/5
I just watched Skyfall a few nights ago and I would rate it a 2-2.5. I realize it got generally positive reviews but I simply wasn't impressed.

Am I alone?

Probably. It's considered one of the top Bond movies, going back to the character Ian Fleming had envisioned. Unfortunately some prefer the cheese that was Moore and Brosnan.

Seriously. Brosnan Bonds were so damn cheesy. Oh look, I can save the world time and time again while womanizing! zzzzzzzzz

"The Master" - As fantastic as "There Will Be Blood" was, this is the polar opposite. 1/5

"Swimming to Cambodia" - It was stronly recommended to me by a friend. I think my friend hates me or something. 1.5/5

Also a few online docs from the "Vice Guide" series - where they show western reporters in some pretty sketchy situations:
"Inside North Korea" - 4/5
"Conflict Minerals, Rebels and Child Soldiers in Congo" - 3/5
"The Cannibal Warlords of Liberia" - 3.5/5

In A Day - An odd little film that is quite good, about a woman who spends the day with a stranger. 3.5/5

Hobbit - liked it but can't believe they are making 3 movies out of 1 short book. :banghead:

Flight - little slow, but a good movie.

Life of Pi - Really liked this one. Very good movie and deserving of it's multiple Oscar wins.

Yeah - that one kind of fell flat. If you like Philip Seymour Hoffman check out his movie "The Savages" from a few years back. Pretty good.

Searching for Sugar Man - Documentary about a talented musician in the 70's who pulled a disappearing act like a real life Eddie and the Cruisers. Great music, interesting story, beautiful editing. Agree with the critics - its a must see. heart

I can't wait to see this! Smilie

I just saw "Sound City". I thought it was great from beginning to end. I had no idea that Sound City was basically responsible for getting Lindsey and Stevie into Fleetwood Mac. Cool story.

laugh out loud based on the book, I'm not sure that literature could ever have been made into a movie that was worth the time or money spent to make it. A story that is definitely better to visualize in one's head than to see on screen.

Not a movie, it's a British TV show but felt it was worth mentioning. If you like quirky British humor, check out Hyperdrive. It's available via instant watch on Netflix. I give it a 4/5.

A sci-fi British comedy about the adventures of Her Majesty's Ship Camden Lock in the year 2151. It's mission: to convince alien governments to relocate their businesses to Britain. The odd crew is a bunch of good-to-nothing led by the equally useless but means well Commander Henderson.

nod Pretty much, although I think it's funnier than The Office, at least the jokes come faster and there are more of them. Sort of The Office with a touch of Red Dwarf thrown in.

I think that's in my hold list. Is that the movie about Dave Grohl purchasing the recording equipment? worship
