This Samsung 4.5 cubic foot top load washer is a budget-friendly option with vibration reduction and a simpler feature set. The deal stands out because the price can include free delivery, basic installation, haul away, and a two year warranty. Some long term ownership reports are positive, including an eight year run and easy parts swaps like suspension rods or a drain pump. The main concern is reliability, with repeated mentions of errors, rust, spin failures, and other breakdowns, so it looks best for shoppers comfortable with some repair risk.
Shoppers who want a washer they can keep repairing, because suspension rods and drain pumps are straightforward, low-cost fixes.
Several comments report long-term problems such as 4C errors, off-balance beeping, rust, lid-launch recalls, pulsator cap replacements, and failures to spin under load. A few owners also report years of use or easy part replacements, so durability appears to depend heavily on the individual unit and usage.
The agitator version is available, and one comment specifically points to the HE top-load design as having limited water and no real agitator, which can make cleaning harder. The agitator model is also called out as the better overall deal in this thread.
The best overall deal mentioned is $545 for the agitator version at Sam's Club, with free delivery, free basic installation, free haul away, and a 2-year warranty. Home Depot is mentioned at $522 today only, while Lowe's and Sam's Club are both cited at $549 before the added services are considered.
Agree.... Stay away..... While they're much more expensive, I'd recommend Speed Queen TC5. You won't be replacing it every 4-6 years and it will get your clothes much cleaner. Also, these HE machines will struggle to clean due to the lack of water and a real agitator. I wouldn't recommend LG either... mine didn't last long. Speed Queen is the way.
GE washers are pretty good and reliable. Mine is going strong for 18+ years now, not a single service call on it but I do maintain / clean it every couple of months.
my LG washer has last 15 year so far. only one issue is the drain pump , but it was easy to fix by tilting the bottom to replace
I've replaced the drain pump twice, but I probably overworked it for a few years (6 person household). It's an under $50 rather easy fix that's definitely cheaper than a new washer.
I have a beautiful Samsung top loader in my basement waiting to be taken too the scrap yard because I don't want to make someone else suffer the way that I have.
So I've heard as well. I think the best rated washers right now are LG?... and speed queen but way higher price point. From what i've read, Dryers are more on the same-ish playing field.
I have a 5 year old LG that dumped on me immediately after the warranty ended and the repair was more than a new washer. I then kept using it until it was properly dead after making horrific sounds for a couple years. Whoever rates LG as reliable must have just bought it because it was cool when it was new. Speed Queen is the only washer I'm willing to spend money on even if its twice as much.
Other than Speed Queen for obvious reasons, none of those brands you mentioned are better than LG washers.
indeed. Maytag isn't what it was 20 years ago. Whirlpool hasn't been worth buying in at least a decade. American made tends to just be a gimmick to make people complain less. American factory workers tend to be dumber than the asian factory workers and care a lot less about the end product.
I've worked in American manufacturing IT departments for the past decade and spent a lot of the 00's writing repair manuals for Whirlpool based on notes from engineers and plenty of long discussions with them. I wont buy a whirlpool even though I can absolutely repair them.
I actively work in a segment of IT that issues recall bulletins on vehicles that are on our streets. I buy korean cars even though I get massive discounts on american.

Oh, I'm familiar. But when one speed queen is 3x the cost of a Maytag, I'm considering if it will actually last 3x as long.
considering my last two washers couldn't survive past two years each and the speed queen is at 5 for me while also actually cleaning better and still has factory warranty; I'm not going back till long after my kids are out of the house. 5 kids + 2 adults is no joke with laundry.

I'm on 9 years with my Maytag washer without issues. I didn't say they were the best, but for their consumer-friendly priced models, they're far and above the Samsung posted here.
