At the risk of sounding like an AvE here, notice while looking at the 'finished/nicer side' of the fan, how the blades turn counterclockwise and pushes the air from that side to the back/rough side direction.
Physics: (fan blade load) For every action there is an equally opposite reaction.
This loading on the fan blades with this design PULLS the fan blades and shaft away from the motor and the thrust bearing surface instead of PUSHING it toward the motor and thrust bearing surface. A far better and longer enduringing design would be the reverse, by having the fan blades PUSH toward the opposite direction so that the loading is not pulling away form the motor/bearing support structure, and instead putting the load there where it belongs.
In other words, totally reversing the fan blade pitch would alleviate the problem and put the force (ie. load) where it belongs for horizontal mounting.
Also notice the existing airflow pushes air towards the circular gap between the motor and the fan blade unit, which 'helps' to push more dust and airborn particles into deeper into the unit to where the bearings are. All could be alleviated by reversing the blade pitch.
Surely you must at least understand the very basics of blowing air *toward* the air gap between the fan blade unit and the motor shell versus a reversed design that would suck dust-ridden air AWAY from this gap (which is the only open pathway to the fluid bearing, where you do not want dust and airborne debris to enter.
But the main part is in how the fan pitch is pulling away from the motor, which makes for a 'weaker link', mechanically/structurally.
You won't understand without ample mechanical aptitude, but the explanation is there. I'm not saying that as any dig at you, honestly. We all have different areas that we may have better or worse aptitude and understanding than other areas where we may excel in.
