This Wolfbox EV charger stands out for flexible setup, with 48A hardwired operation or 40A use on a 14 50 plug, plus app and RFID control. The cable and charger are described as sturdy, and charging a Model Y at 40A has worked well. Installation can be straightforward when the panel is nearby, though longer runs and electrical work can add significant cost. The main caveat is that plug and charge may need app setup and can reset after power cycles, so it is a practical pick if you want configurable charging without paying for bigger brands.

  • Drivers who want adjustable charging speeds, because it can be set to 48A on a hardwired 60A circuit or 40A on a 50A circuit with the plug option.

  • EV owners who want app or RFID control, because plug-and-charge can be enabled in the app and the charger can also run through RFID.

  • Model Y owners using a J1772 adapter, because it charges successfully at 40A and the cable is described as heavy-gauge and durable.

  • Homeowners with a nearby panel who want a straightforward hardwired install, because the charger can be mounted close to the breaker box with a short wire run.

  • Shoppers expecting a simple DIY install at a distant panel, because longer wire runs can get expensive and electrical work may require professional help.

  • Owners planning to reuse an old dryer or welder outlet long term, because appliance outlets can fail under sustained EV charging and an EV-rated outlet is recommended.

  • Drivers who need true plug-and-charge to stay on after every power cycle, because plug-and-charge can reset to OFF and require the app to toggle again.

  • People wanting a compact wall unit, because it is about twice the size of a Tesla wall charger.

Dude using an existing dryer run, you trying to burn houses down? Most runs are 30A and wires aren't thick enough.Appreciate the sentiment but be safe
Electrical engineer here that has permited, wired, and had many DIY projects inspected with 100% success. Using an existing electrical run using a dryer or whatever is perfectly safe and totally legit way to add an EV charger. As I stated in my post (and presume you missed) you need to set the charger to match the amperage of the breaker. I further reiterated that you should swap out the outlet for one that is EV rated. I believe other posts have all supported what I stated as well but I certainly do appreciate your concern for the community.

Thanks for posting the deal. I had been waiting for a deal on a decent EVSE charger. I was going to pull the trigger on any of the bigger brands like ChargePoint or Autel but this was a deal I couldn't pass up. Just got it installed myself about an hour ago hooked up to my outside disconnect on 60AMP breaker. The THHN, conduit, breaker and connects cost me almost the same as the charger.

Arrived the other day. Took about 40 minutes to change to the 14-50 NEMA, change to 40a and mount on the wall.

App seems dated, but functional. Have been charging successfully. Happy with the price.

Just installed it. Very easy to swap in the plug-in cable and set the amp limit. However, setting plug-and-charge goes to OFF with every power cycle, and the app is needed to toggle. Gemini says that I could disconnect the RFID reader, but I will have to try that later.

Does a $750 estimate seem reasonable for an outdoor EV charger installation near my electrical meter? I have an existing disconnect breaker box with available space located between my garage panel and the meter.

I watched a YouTube video suggesting that a firmware update is available to resolve the power cycle issue. https://youtu.be/_nduUUbtclQ?si=3C1wdIn7zaMbej_j

Yes. My estimate for a 25 foot 50 amp cable run from electric meter riser with new breaker to an installed socket at the car parking spot was $800.
