UPDATE: The one listed here says it is hardwired, but it actually comes with a plug you can swap in and set to 40amp via dip switches (via the picture, comment above, and confirmed by the manual). So, I applied the code and ordered it. Thanks!

This Wolfbox EV charger stands out for flexible setup, with 48A hardwired operation or 40A use on a 14 50 plug, plus app and RFID control. The cable and charger are described as sturdy, and charging a Model Y at 40A has worked well. Installation can be straightforward when the panel is nearby, though longer runs and electrical work can add significant cost. The main caveat is that plug and charge may need app setup and can reset after power cycles, so it is a practical pick if you want configurable charging without paying for bigger brands.
Common Questions (5)
The code was reported to work on the 48A listing, but later comments say it stopped working on 40A and 50A options and that the 48A option went out of stock. In the Amazon app, applying the code may require tapping the arrow in the promo box before Continue.
It can be set to Plug and Charge in the Wolf app, and RFID can reportedly be turned off so it behaves like a plug-and-charge unit. One caveat is that Plug and Charge may reset to OFF after a power cycle and need to be toggled again in the app.
A hardwired install is straightforward if the panel is in the garage or you already have an EV-rated 30A-50A outlet, but it can be a hard pass without electrical experience. Longer wire runs can get expensive because copper is costly, and some jurisdictions may require a permit or inspection.
Yes. The charger can be set by DIP switches to 48A for hardwired installation with a 60A breaker, or to 40A with a 50A breaker using either hardwire or the included NEMA 14-50 plug. The plug can reportedly be swapped in about 5 minutes.
Yes, but the charger should be set to match the breaker size, and one practical example was setting it to 27A on a dryer outlet. For long-term EV charging, the outlet should be swapped to an EV-rated receptacle because older appliance outlets can fail under sustained load.

unreal price for a good charger, even tesla owners should just buy an adaptor to take advantage of this. I just recently bought an Iyilo charger, but I'd have bought this if this price existed.
I also saw a review that said that RFID can be turned off so it can be plug and charge.
I already placed my order for the 48A model where the code worked and the code doesn't work a second time on the 48A version either, so I can't test any longer.

Edit - some local jurisdictions require a permit and/or inspection for this type of work. YouTube is a great resource to show how to do this project. Also, if your garage has an existing 30A-50A outlet that was used with a dryer, welder, etc. it is really straight-forward to use it with a car charger. There are outlets you can swap to that are rated for electric car chargers (small green symbol on the outlet) that are recommended over older outlets just be sure you adjust the dip switches on the charger to match the breaker size on the outlet.
