From the manual, it looks like this has DIP switches to set it either at 48A or 40A charging. 48A charging requires hardwiring and a 60A breaker, 40A requires a 50A breaker and can be used hardwired or with the 14-50 plug.

All reviews say this a solid charger, but the code does not work on the 40amp plugin version.

UPDATE: The one listed here says it is hardwired, but it actually comes with a plug you can swap in and set to 40amp via dip switches (via the picture, comment above, and confirmed by the manual). So, I applied the code and ordered it. Thanks!

Reviews claim it isn't plug and charge but requires app or RFID card.

I also saw a review that said that RFID can be turned off so it can be plug and charge.

8PROTECTIONS still seems to work. If you're using the Amazon app you might be missing the step of tapping on the arrow that appears in the promo code box to apply the code (before tapping the Continue button).

Why does the title say NEMA 14-50, this is a hardwired charger, what it bypasses the 14-50 plug, thus more reliable/safer. the product page doesn't mention anything about NEMA 14-50.

unreal price for a good charger, even tesla owners should just buy an adaptor to take advantage of this. I just recently bought an Iyilo charger, but I'd have bought this if this price existed.

In the app you just check off "Plug and Charge" and it works without any other user input. I have had the 50amp screen version for almost 2 years and love it.

It works well and you can set it via the dip switches or from the wolf app to 40amps. I purchased during prime day. It works well on my model y with the j17752 adapter.

Anyone concerned with the 3 year Warran-Ty offered in the second photo?

Did anyone check to see if the coupon code works on the 50A version?

I already placed my order for the 48A model where the code worked and the code doesn't work a second time on the 48A version either, so I can't test any longer.

Not hard at all but if you do not have electrical experience and/or are not comfortable opening up your electrical breaker box and adding a breaker and sizing, running and terminating electric wire this is a hard pass and you should hire a professional. If your panel is in your garage it will be a super easy install and/or very inexpensive project as you can literally just mount the charger in the garage next to the panel and have a very short run of copper wire. Copper wire is crazy expensive these days so longer runs will be expensive just for the materials.

Edit - some local jurisdictions require a permit and/or inspection for this type of work. YouTube is a great resource to show how to do this project. Also, if your garage has an existing 30A-50A outlet that was used with a dryer, welder, etc. it is really straight-forward to use it with a car charger. There are outlets you can swap to that are rated for electric car chargers (small green symbol on the outlet) that are recommended over older outlets just be sure you adjust the dip switches on the charger to match the breaker size on the outlet.
