They are detachable (and have a USB C port) but not really meant to be used separately forever. We are buying this for our lake house where we don't have a suitable rear wall, and don't want satellite stands cluttering the room. Usually we are just watching football or something in the background and have guests over, but occasionally we will watch a movie at night. We can detach them when we want to sit down and watch something, and just throw them on the table behind us without needing to commit to something all the time.

These are more of a niche item, and not meant for someone who has space for a normal setup, or want surround sound with everything

Can you have them plugged in with a usb-c charger when in the rear?

I've got the 1000 and it's fine. A little irritating, but the battery life is long. These should be loud enough for everyone too. I can't turn mine up past 2/3 if the way before it becomes uncomfortable

Dont see why not. I believe the first gen did not have the USB C port and it was added for gen 2, probably because people were complaining about not being able to use the surround full time. They also added plastic covers for the end in case you want to leave them off permanently

ehh. it actually has major advantages as wireless rears mean obviously, no need to plug in two surrounds. much much less clutter and more convenience imo. then you also have the ability to run a simpler bar+sub setup when desired

however the very major disadvantage is, what if the batteries die? i read theres a yt vid on how to buy a certain generic battery on amazon and replace the batteries, but when i looked into it it seemed a lot more like invasive surgery than something modular. further, with most battery items, plugging them in doesnt run them off AC power (pass through), it just charges the battery 24/7. It would still presumably be the case, if the batteries die the speakers die! so how long have they got? 3 years? idk, seems questionable. then, a few user reviews ppl claim the surrounds dont get very loud either (while others say they sound great so idk)

edit: just watched the yt it's major surgery, lots of glued part that have to be sliced thru etc. i wouldnt touch these but most ppl wont care. terrible design imo, just make the batteries modular or even sell the surrounds separately (they dont)
