You are comparing the at the time top of the line U series (small and light) processor to the middle of the road 450. There was no Ryzen 9 in the sub 30 watt category in 2023, so this was it. Which puts the 7840u against the Ryzen AI 9 HX 475 which with the same power limits is 50~% faster on multi core and 10~% on single core.
AMD has definitely taken a break this generation with Gorgon Point, but not so far that 2023=2026 with the same class of processor.

Huh? The 7840U wasn't the highest-performance laptop chip available from AMD, there were HS, H, and HX variants. Comparing the 7840HX against the HX 475 makes the newer chips look even worse: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...adeon-890M
For those saying AMD's chips haven't really gotten better, It's not just an AMD phenomenon - the last few generations of CPU's haven't really moved the needle on benchmark performance. I just went from a 7840HX to the newest/best intel X9 388H (HP OmniBook Ultra Laptop 14-kd000), and it scores 12.7% less lol

Apples and oranges. The HX chips used WAY more power. If you compare H-series chips, it's clear Intel is making progress https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...tra-5-338H whereas AMD is standing still.

Where did I say it was the "highest performance laptop chip"? I specifically said "U class", which is the 30watt and down at that time. So you responded by comparing a 55 watt HX from the 2023 generation against a 28 watt "HX 475", and then immediately responded to someone else by bringing up the power envelopes.
Was that a mistake, or just you arguing your point even if it required you to be misleading and compare a 55 watt chip to one that uses half of it's power?
Anyways, point is you were originally comparing that generations top of the line low power chip to the current middle tier low power chip. Comparing the 7840HX vs the Ryzen AI Max 390 (which is middle of the road for this gens 55w options) gives you similar multi core, 10% faster single core and 1600% faster iGPU which is where a lot of the increases have gone for various reasons (both gaming and AI).

Would you consider this a good deal? Thanks!

Hi, it really depends on what you need. I know more about the gaming side of laptops than I do the business side, despite MOSTLY using my laptop for business stuff.
Personally I would never buy this because 14" laptop when I don't really travel is 1. Too Small and 2. No 10 key numberpad is non negotiable for me. I have to have a built in number pad, but you basically won't ever get that on a sub 15" laptop.
For the specs, at an eyeball glance, this seems solid. You are basically trading the 5060/70 &oled from a Lenovo 15" gaming laptop for an extra 16 GBs of ram, a panel that is better for text display usually because oleds can lack crispness on black text because of how the pixels are made, and under 3 lbs instead of over 4. Also incredible battery life over the gaming options even with the same chip. Redditor said they watched a movie at 1080P on battery for 90 minutes and only took about 10% of the battery life.
But yeah, for it's price, class etc? It's great looking.
