The Winix C909 is a high airflow air purifier that works well for dust, pollen, and allergy relief, with reports of fewer allergies, less rash irritation, and pre filters that quickly collect visible debris. It uses the standard A filter with a carbon sheet, and the Costco bundle includes an extra filter plus Costco backing. The PlasmaWave ionizer defaults on, so it has to be turned off manually if desired, and WiFi control needs a 2.4 gigahertz network with no spaces in the network name. A bearing issue has also been raised on other Winix models, so long term reliability may be worth watching.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. It moves a lot more air than the other two models mentioned and works well for keeping dust and pollen down when there is enough space for it. It is also described as one of the best air purifiers at this price.

  • Yes. The PlasmaWave ionizer defaults to on, so it has to be turned off manually each time if you do not want it running. The ozone output is described as very low, so accidental use is not considered a major concern.

  • At $159.99, it is more expensive than a refurbished C909 bought for $120, but this Costco version includes an extra filter and Costco backing. The same price has also been paid at Costco before, which suggests it is a normal sale price for this model.

  • It uses the standard A filter with a carbon sheet, not the fancier carbon pellets. That makes it a simpler filter setup than some higher-end Winix models.

  • It can, but it requires a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network and the SSID cannot contain spaces. Control is otherwise through the buttons on the unit or the Winix app.

Bought this same deal at the same price in Nov 2024. Great purifier. Might get a second to replace an older unit with no wifi. Thanks OP!

I notice a difference. Aside from having fewer allergies, I observed that the pre-filters get dirty quickly, which means that the purifier works and keeps the air cleaner.

I live close to a relatively busy street, and I clean the house regularly, and still, these pre-filters need cleaning often. If you are sensitive to changes in the air, you should be able to feel and see that these purifiers work.

Here's the mandatory link to the ProjectFarm YouTube channel testing air purifiers: https://youtu.be/sQGfO4hNb60?is=TccnFVmW__rVBgiX

Edit: Worked on formatting.

The default is is for the ionizer (Plasmawave) to be on, so you have to remember to turn it off each time you ever turn your purifier on and off.

That said, the ozone generated by the Plasmawave is supposed to be really low so if I forgot to turn it off I don't see why there would be a concern.....

Yes less allergic rashes after I got it when I was in a place with mold. I brought a similar Winix model.
