That was exactly my thought. These are $50 Walmart boots. And let's face it, Merrell doesn't have any good hiking boots, and certainly not anything worth $170. Some people like the MOABs but as a the owner of a pair (I got for $60) I am far from impressed. The one good thing I can say about them is that they haven't fallen apart yet.

If you're wanting to walk on gravel trails 2 miles at a time for a max of 25 times, these will be sufficient. The company has gone downhill and they will not stand behind their products. For true hiking, these will not work for long before the sole separates.

Not narrow, but they have a thin sole and are not for colder weather. I found out the hard way.
