Merrell Wrapt sneakers are a casual, wide-base shoe that stands out for stability and a roomy front end, especially for walking, light scrambling, biking, and easy hikes. The $44.99 price also applies to some non waterproof colors, and the wide fit works well for broader feet. The main drawbacks are the arch support and toe box, which feel intrusive or too tight for some, and the waterproof suede can trap heat and moisture. They read more like everyday walkers than serious trail shoes.

Can someone explain why many Merrell shoes have such a wide front area? They feel loose and insecure when I try them at the store, but I have never owned a pair. Cool design but look at last photo (top view) - they look like mini swimming fins.
Studies have shown wide in toes but well secured in mid-foot doesn't diminish performance except for certain sport like rock climbing.

Wide base provides much better stability when planting your feet as you walk, climb, bike, etc. Sounds like you have narrow feet which these shoes might not be best suited for. I, for one, have hobbit feet and specifically look for this type of shoe (which isn't easy to find nowadays.)

Have these in black. Surprisingly, too tight of a toe box for me. Cause some callousing on my little toe. Not as bad as non barefoot.

When they say waterproof, what do they actually mean? Water not getting inside the shoe?

Liked the BLUE color but out of stock for the size I am looking into, not sure how often they restock? Does anyone have any idea on restock? or once they are out of stock they are going to stop the sale as they may have a new version incoming? Any thoughts would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Water not moving through the material of the shoe. The problem is if it gets into the shoe through the opening where your foot goes in, it stays there and you get swampy feet. I'm not a fan of low-profile waterproof shoes as they tend to make your feet hot and trap moisture. Better off getting a shoes that dries quickly or boots that are better at keeping water out.

mostly for Saturday walks to Starbucks by people who have never owned trail or hiking shoes. These were at DWS shoes months ago and are not designed for any serious trail hiking. Fashion shoes.

for easy hiking but if you may want more support if you're carrying a heavy backpack.
for easy scrambling but you may want dedicated rock climbing shoes if you're rock climbing.

Great $45 casual shoe for walking around town, but skip it for real backcountry hiking. The thin 'barefoot' sole offers zero rock protection or arch support under a heavy pack, and waterproof suede on a low-top shoe just traps sweat while letting trail dust spill right in over the ankle. Stick to casual use for this one.

i bought 3 of these and returned. The arch insert is horrible, it feels like it stabs the foot. The color is also not green it was like a olive color. These shoes were crazy painful.
