Community Reviews

Terro liquid ant bait stations are a low-cost, pet friendly option that can wipe out sugar ant trails fast and often clear a colony within a few days. The bait lasts longer than gel alternatives and is easy to keep in place, which makes it handy for recurring indoor ant problems or RV use. Effectiveness depends on the ant type, though, since carpenter ants and some Argentine sugar ant infestations were not controlled. A practical pick when the target ants are the right kind.

Common Questions (4)

  • It can attract sugar ants and Argentine ants, but it may not eliminate the colony in every case. One report says Argentine ants ate the bait without the colony dying, while another says Terro works well for sugar-ant-type infestations.

    Promarkpmollferganer

  • It can work within a few days, and in one RV infestation the ant trail was gone in under two days. Another report says the entire colony was gone a few days after the bait was placed.

    ferganerFIRiETAG

  • Terro is described as significantly cheaper and pet friendly. Advion gel may work better for most black ants, but it can dry up quickly, while Terro lasts longer and is easier to keep out.

    DarnCrazylethol0gica

  • It may not attract carpenter ants at all. One comment specifically suggests the bait works better on sugar ants than carpenter ants.

Yep, it's a bunch of little Jim Joneses taking this Cool-Aid to the nest. A few days later and the entire Ants Temple is gone.

For most black ants, in my experience is Advion Ant Gel Bait works better but tends to dry up quickly. Terro bait traps last a lot longer, but I find it doesn't really kill ants as well. However Terro traps are also significantly cheaper and pet friendly.

I had a terrible ant problem at my previous house in Southern California and tried many things, including these Terro bait things. Nothing worked. They would immediately spring up from some other random spot, a wall outlet, the trim around a door, a window corner. There were millions of them. It wasn't until I found a suggestion of Bifen I/T on a post here on Slickdeals. I don't think you can get this stuff in the big box stores. It's on Amazon at the link below. It absolutely deletes insects and I enthusiastically recommend it to everyone.

Just a hunch, but I'm going to guess they were carpenter ants, not sugar ants. Terro does not attract carpenter ants at all.

Stop buying those ant baits. Get diatomaceous powder (food grade). You won't have any insects - period. $8-10 for a big bag. You'll be blessed by it.

This is just Borax if you look at the ingredients. You can buy the powder for $7 and have a whole box to use for multiple things including making your own ant bait. Search YouTube for videos on it.

These work wonders... took my RV to the Outer Banks and was infested with a line of ants from the bathroom to the front door... not even two days later, good to go...

They were Argentine ants, which are considered "sugar ants." They love sweets. They would eat the Terro bait, but it wouldn't kill the colony.
