Epson eco tank are maintenance and repair nightmare. If don't print for 2 weeks, you will need to unclog the print head. If you make mistake ink will leak on circuits, which will short circuit the sensor side, or the motherboard side. All parts are expensive to replace. There are unnecessary designs to make it difficult to repair because they want you to break it accidentally.

Are there any inkjets that don't clog if you don't use them consistently? My canon cartridge version needs constant unclogging if I don't use it.

Laserjets are the solution, if you want to set and forget, although upfront cost is higher.

If you don't print frequently on an inkjet, safest is probably to remove the cartridge, put tape over the contacts, and then just wipe it and put it back in when you're going to use it again.

Oh yeah, I have one...I should've been more specific. My wife likes to print on photo paper, something my color laser can't do. That's the only reason we keep around this old Canon Inkjet...the photos still come out great, even though it takes a long time to unclog if we don't use it for a while.

Oddly, my Canon Pixma PRO-100 color photo printer rarely gets used but it never clogs. I just now tried a color test page after not having been used for almost a year and a perfect print came out.

This is a tank-style inkjet and there is no cartridge to remove. Tank-style inkjet is the only way to go for cost -- it comes with years of ink in the box and ink is cheaper than cartridge ink refills (and you can buy any brand unlike cartridges that are locked to the manufacturer OEM).

I don't have the pro Pixma, but a Pixma Ix6820 and it clogs if I don't use it for a week.

just set a reminder to print something in color every couple of weeks and you will be fine. also, epson regularly has this refurb model for $170 with free shipping on their site, includes a 1yr warranty just like brand new.
also you can sometimes snag a deal on their official ebay account for the same price + includes 2yr third party warranty that runs in parallel to the factory warranty
