The 2 pair of wolverines i had both split at the soles in the middle. Did a prayer over them immediately out of the box and the next pair lasted almost month longer... These look tough, but still concerned

This is unfortunately now the norm with nearly all modern Wolverine boots. They're heritage boots still made in America, especially their 1,000 Mile Boots, are still fantastic quality. Their new made in America line called Workshop Wedge are supposedly good quality as well (not as nice as 1,000 Mile, but decent).
That said, these Overpass Carbonmax are the best of the Wolverines made overseas. They're no 1,000 Mile boot or the Wolverine of old, but they're miles better quality than the usual department store Wolverine (probably what you had) that fall apart after a month. These are actually worth $100, while the department store models are overpriced Chinese/Cambodian junk.
