This Moto G Power 2024 Tracfone bundle stands out as a budget 5G phone with unusually full specs for the price, including 8GB RAM, 128GB storage with microSD, a 120Hz 1080p screen, wireless charging, a 3.5mm jack, and a main camera with optical image stabilization. It also works well as a backup, Wi Fi calling, or media phone, and the included year of service adds value. The main drawbacks are the dimmer outdoor display, average cameras, and Tracfone activation and unlock rules that require careful handling. A solid low cost option if the service terms fit your setup.

Common Questions (6)

  • Yes. It can work fine as a Wi‑Fi calling/data phone, with mobile data used sparingly off Wi‑Fi. It is also described as a solid backup device and a good extra media phone once unlocked.

  • Unlocking is tied to the originally activated phone and its original SIM/service year. The phone generally needs one year of active service on that device before you can request the unlock, and moving service to another phone can prevent the original unit from qualifying.

  • Direct SIM swapping can cause problems, and Tracfone/Straight Talk usually want a service transfer instead. You can call to move the phone number and service info, or use Tracfone's transfer process to avoid issues.

  • The main complaints are the dim 500-nit TFT display outdoors and budget-level cameras, especially indoors and for video stabilization. Security updates are also reported to end in March 2027, so the software support window is limited.

  • It has 8GB RAM, 128GB storage plus microSD expansion, 5G, a 120Hz display, a 3.5mm headphone jack, wireless charging, and OIS on the main camera. It is positioned as a strong budget compromise rather than a flagship.

  • Yes. The included 1-year Tracfone plan is reported as 1,500 minutes, 1,500 texts, and 1.5 GB of data with unlimited carryover as long as an active Tracfone plan remains in use.

The phone is a decent choice (given it's a freebie, locked for a year, and a 2024 model) -8GB RAM128GB + SDCARD storage5G + 3.5mm jack + 120Hz refresh screenIt is not a flagship, but those specs make it a very decent compromise! This deal is back - it was around not that long ago.
I took advantage of this deal online the last time it was around, and it's a really decent phone. It's faster, smoother, and has a better screen than I expected. I actually just got the deal for the year or service, but I'm actually using the phone now too. I just keep mobile data off and run it off of WiFi unless I absolutely need a bit of data while I'm away from the house. Highly recommend.

Assuming I could buy this just to keep in my Kindergartners backpack to use GPS to track when their bus will be home?

Only if you do it during activation by bringing your own (current) Tracfone number. Tracfone stopped merging 2+ lines after activation when it was bought out by Verizon.
Thanks, I have been using Tracfone from about a year and have a tracfone number and it is going to expire soon so just wanted to add this for additional one year.

Verizon services this in my area and their 5G sucks. I am not able to connect to internet in a lot of places I go, The carriers prioritorize their flagship phones over Tracfone phones.

Can I buy this and just activate/use the service on another phone? Or does it have to be THIS phone?

Sim/plan is linked to imei of phone it comes with & has to be activated on that phone.
You can buy a TF BYOP sim & move the plan to a different phone after activation (but the original phone will not unlock unless you keep 1 yr of service active on that phone).

I have had problems like you say with 5G phones. Usually the phone won't let you force it to 4G LTE. That would work. I don't like the 1year requirement nowdays to unlock a phone vs 30 or 60days. This with 1yr was a screaming deal before oos. I got two of the 4G models this month unlocked from BestBuy on sale for $100. Same phone I think but no 5G and that might be a good thing. Reviews are good. Picture quality just ok and videos shake too much from lack of good stabilization. I'm on the older iphone ecosystem and will likely stay there. For elderly kids and many people the motorolas past 2023 models have good reviews. BB has a different looking 5G phone unlocked on sale for $169 moto g last few months.

thanks, you had me at wireless charging. I often update older phones with USB receivers for my wireless charging stands. Impulse buy but better than last Moto, the non power G.. pretty lame so I went with Samsung A16 and Tracfone sim swap. Anyway this is another impulse buy for the price of a bag of groceries. Buy now and think later, easy returns on Walmart + and it comes with some other free offers. Hard to find deals nowadays to update my gear and SD stash. yummy

If you can point out anything wrong with the phone, it's the 500 nit max display. Plenty bright for indoors use but outdoors suffer. Garbage cameras are the normal for budget phones. Good image sensors are too expensive. But what other $50 new device (that will unlock) will give you 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 1080p high refresh rate screen, and a CPU that doesn't chug from normal daily-use apps? This can be a daily driver for many people out there.
