This Corsair RM850e refurb is a fully modular 850 watt Gold PSU that stands out for its low price and long warranty coverage. The bundle appears to include the same cables as a new unit, with two PCIe leads listed, and the eBay refurb carries a 2 year Allstate warranty. The main caution is refurb provenance, since the listing uses generic manufacturer approved language rather than a clear Corsair tested promise. It also sits below a B plus tier list rating, making it a value play with some trust tradeoffs.

Common Questions (5)

  • A PSU is considered a high-risk used component because a failure can damage other parts, so some shoppers prefer new units or a seller they trust more. The RM850e refurb is still viewed as a decent-tier unit, but the refurb source and warranty are the main concerns.

  • Corsair's own refurb description says every unit is tested by Corsair before it is cleaned and repacked. The eBay refurbished wording is broader and can also cover a manufacturer-approved vendor, so the exact refurb path is not guaranteed from the listing alone.

  • It appears to include two PCIe GPU cables: one 8-pin and one 6+2. That matches the same cable set as a new unit, so it should cover typical single- or dual-connector GPU setups.

  • The eBay refurbished listing is reported to include a 2-year Allstate warranty. That is longer than Corsair's own refurb listing, which is noted as only 90 days.

  • The eBay refurb is about $10 cheaper than Corsair's website refurb listing, with one total reported at $59.01 after tax. Corsair's own site listing is noted at $85 with a 90-day warranty.

The statement: "It has been professionally inspected, cleaned, and refurbished by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor." is eBay's default verbiage for listing items at the refurbished condition. I figure it uses "OR" to cover all circumstances if a seller does it themselves, uses an external company, or both. However, such statement does mislead a bit if the seller is more restrictive - which appears to be the case with Corsair.

From Corsair's website: "Every unit is tested by CORSAIR to confirm it meets original performance specifications, then cleaned and repacked before it reaches you." [source: "What Certified Refurbished Means", https://www.corsair.com/us/en/c/c...I1-wXuIJ0]
Those are refurbs sold by Corsair, directly from Corsair's website. You can find the same PSU on sale there, but it's for $85 and it only includes a 90 day warranty, which is disappointing. But Ebay is not the same as Corsair.com.

Would this be a good replacement for the PSU below? The bearings on the fan are starting to go, not sure that the fan even spins at full speed now, and my PC starting to instantly shut off under heavy load (gaming).

Your PSU is probably the most boring and underappreciated component in your PC. But it also has the power (ha!) to kill all of your other components. I'd buy used CPU's and RAM, but I don't think I'd ever trust a used PSU.

Agreed, it's just not worth it.

With the prices of GPU's and memory,
the prices on these "peripherals" have got be going down.
