Tablo 4th Gen is a simple over the air DVR that shines for easy local recording, a friendly interface, and two tuner recording for two shows at once. It works well with Roku and Google TV, can fast forward through recordings, and the app also pulls in free streaming channels. The main knocks are slow menus and channel changes, occasional app or network glitches, and heat related reliability concerns. Storage is tight at 128GB, so an external drive is often needed, and ATSC 3.0 uncertainty hangs over its long term future.
Common Questions (5)
It can work well for OTA recording and playback, but several reports mention slow menus, occasional app/network disconnects, overheating, and units dying after about 1-2 years. Keeping it cool with good airflow, a fan, or upside-down placement may help, and the 1-year warranty has covered replacements for some failures.
Yes. Viewing is done through the Tablo app on a phone, tablet, or TV device, and performance depends heavily on a strong Wi‑Fi network and good antenna reception. Weak Wi‑Fi or poor signal is a common cause of lag and failed playback.
It only supports ATSC 1.0, so it will not receive NextGen TV/ATSC 3.0 broadcasts. Several comments say ATSC 1.0 is unlikely to disappear soon, but if you want 4K or future ATSC 3.0 features, this model is not the right choice.
Yes. The 2-tuner model can record two OTA shows at the same time, and the included 128GB can be expanded with a USB external drive, with 1TB commonly added. External storage is important because 128GB fills quickly.
It does not integrate with Fire TV live channels, so you have to use the Tablo app. It also is not the model that runs Plex; users looking for Plex integration are pointing to HDHomeRun instead.

I might need to ask you a few questions just to clarify.
Did you get the 2-tuner model or 4 tuner model?
Did you turn OFF the amplified attenna setting on the device itself?
Sounded like you are aware of manageing the heat on device with fan, ect.
I did buy the 2-tuner model and turned off the amplified anttena setting.
Good luck with homerun and let us know how it works out for you.
The 50 dollar tablo 2-tuner is on sale again.
Seems like good deal for me, and from other sources , if you get the 2-tuner model and turn off the amplified antenna settings people should not have heating problems. At least when I searched redit and other places.
the current theory is stay away from the 4-tuner model, problems after 1 year, "heating issues".
