Tablo 4th Gen is a simple over the air DVR that shines for easy local recording, a friendly interface, and two tuner recording for two shows at once. It works well with Roku and Google TV, can fast forward through recordings, and the app also pulls in free streaming channels. The main knocks are slow menus and channel changes, occasional app or network glitches, and heat related reliability concerns. Storage is tight at 128GB, so an external drive is often needed, and ATSC 3.0 uncertainty hangs over its long term future.

Great deal, and mine has been flawless. I've been very mindful to keep it as cool as possible, so it sits on a small baker's rack for good airflow. I also use an external antenna amplifier instead of the one inside the unit, so that's turned off as well. So far, it's been great with Roku and the picture quality is fantastic. Still, when the switchover is made to ATSC 3.0 in a few years, this will be essentially worthless.
I did my best keeping mine cool, using an external hard drive, etc. it died last night in 1 year 10 months. I actually had mine sitting on the outlet of an air purifier, so it had a constant airflow around it.

thanks for answering all my questions. rep-ed you. also thanks for the link. Also thanks for suggestion turning the unit it on upside down. How many units do you have working, and how many crashed and burned.Since you turned them upside down, any don't work anymore? I'm in florida to it gets hot as hell... well almost as hot as hell.putting a small fan on unit might help.
Mine just died last night. I had it on a fan. Not quite one year and ten months. I had ordered another in preparation for this day, but also just ordered a HD Homerun to try out. I don't use any of the streaming channels on Tablo, just over the air. But it is so slow and flaky, I think want to try something different.

hi jim

I might need to ask you a few questions just to clarify.
Did you get the 2-tuner model or 4 tuner model?
Did you turn OFF the amplified attenna setting on the device itself?

Sounded like you are aware of manageing the heat on device with fan, ect.

I did buy the 2-tuner model and turned off the amplified anttena setting.

Good luck with homerun and let us know how it works out for you.

The 50 dollar tablo 2-tuner is on sale again.

Seems like good deal for me, and from other sources , if you get the 2-tuner model and turn off the amplified antenna settings people should not have heating problems. At least when I searched redit and other places.

the current theory is stay away from the 4-tuner model, problems after 1 year, "heating issues".
