I was looking to replace my FireTV Recast just works when it wants and has to constantly be rebooted but I am going to wait for newer model.

For some reason my TV's can't get certain local channels no matter what antenna I use but the Tablo can so that and procrastination is why I continue to enjoy it.
I upgraded the dedicated plex from a 16gb 3770k because after a plex version update about 4 years ago, I started getting endless lag and crashes when like pausing then skipping commercials while watching football games.
I'm tired of plex's issues. I even gave the thing a 3060 12gb card about 3 years ago, problem remains even though plex is using hardware encoding.
What version model number is this original Tablo I've noticed people talk well of, so I can search marketplace for it? Thanks

Almost makes me glad I'll be moving in the next couple of years to a location that has no OTA signals I'm interested in receiving.
Someone mentioned putting some type of fan pointing at the tablo, is it a heat problem, or some other component in the device, that fails? If only 42 percent of people give this product 5 stars on Amazon , and 24 percent give it 1 star ... is it user error or product error?
Also, confused about 2 things. Does this come with 14 free tv guide , some people say NO, just 3 days free guide. Also can it record streaming stuff or not, some say YES and others seem to say it only records OTA content.
Can it record Youtube videos, Netflix, amazon prime, paramount , tubi. What exactly do some people mean when they say it can record streaming channels?
If no external antenna is attached to this device, what can it record ... what have you found by experimenting with device. If you have internet connection, what can you record without external antenna?
i own a tivo roamio and it only records OTA content, and I have homerun stuff, .. and amazon recast device, all I have recorded was just OTA content, does this Tablo record streaming stuff, yes or no.
It's a network device and can be hooked up via Wi-Fi. Many people have terrible home wireless networks. Playback is via another device/app. Wide variety there between Roku, Android, Apple, etc.
It produces a good amount of heat and keeping it in an enclosed area could be problematic. I have mine on some little pieces of wood to raise it up and help airflow. I don't know if it is necessary, but doesn't hurt and cost nothing.
I was hesitant to buy mine, but it's been working fine. It was cheap and I'm happy not to pay monthly for guide data. I agree with the previous post. It doesn't handle bad reception gracefully.
Their app bundles in a lot of "free" streaming channels. They are coming over the Internet, but blended in with your OTA channels. They have ads and Tablo makes money no doubt. Those are probably what people are referring to. I don't remember if you can record them or not. Maybe someone else can answer that.

Those big conglomerates will not upgrade towers/broadcast hardware if they don't have to.

Works offline. Above streaming channels will still work if you don't have an antenna.
Note: Tablo sells on walmart which you can get with an extended warranty.
Basically zero setup just download the app on any device - it finds it on the network.
If you want to watch outside your network get a used Sling AirTV box. Can use it with a free sling account - but the interface is kinda crappy.
Having said that, if you want a quick-n-easy DVR setup inside the home to stream from all devices, there is no beating Tablo.
