While looking for a deal on a Ridgid impact wrench and chainsaw, I stumbled upon this in-store clearance item: So, this is a big YMMV. Don't chew me out on it.
BRUSHLESS Subcompact Drill + Impact Driver + TWO 2.0Ah Batteries - it sounds like a perfect kit for somebody who is entering the Ridgid ecosystem or somebody who just needs a basic yet reliable power tools around the apartment/house.
Go to the item page. Look for the "See In-Store Clearance Price". If you don't see it, try your luck again by "check nearby stores".

RIDGID's 18V subcompact brushless drill and impact driver kit stands out for its lightweight, nimble feel and solid everyday power. The drill is described as light with plenty of torque, and the set has held up well in regular use for years. The lifetime warranty adds appeal, especially at a clearance price. The main concern is battery and trigger quality, with reports of dead batteries, broken triggers, and boxes that may have sat on shelves for a long time. A compact option that fits frequent use better than heavy-duty jobs.
Common Questions (4)
Some units have arrived with a broken impact-driver trigger, and one kit was reported with both dead batteries and a broken trigger out of the box. That points to possible quality-control or storage issues on some clearance stock, so inspecting the box and contents before leaving the store is important.
Some kits have arrived with both 2.0Ah batteries completely dead, and the batteries in at least one box were built in 2022. The likely issue is old stock sitting on shelves for years, so checking the battery date code and asking Home Depot for an exchange may be necessary.
The kit is considered lightweight and nimble, with the drill described as having strong power and torque for its size. It can feel like overkill for basic apartment or house needs, but it is a good fit if you want compact tools you'll grab often.
The lifetime warranty is a major reason to buy RIDGID, especially at a clearance price. It can offset the risk of a bad unit because defective tools or batteries may be worth replacing under warranty.

When I was Home Depot to pick up the Ridgid hybrid fan a month ago, the guy unlocked the cage and pulled the box out. Next thing you know, he said "oh the box looked 're-taped' although I didn't think so. He opened the box and checked everything for me. He added "I just wanna make sure it is brand new like you expect it." I had an impression that people return tools after use but claim that the box has never been opened.
It's possible your box has been sitting on the shelf for years plus they don't ship the batteries 'fully' charged.
If you look at the first two digits of the serial code after "CS", that's the year the battery was manufactured: For example serial # CS22382Nxxxxx means it was made in the 38th week of 2022.
I grab for these the most because they're nimble & lightweight
If you want power, also go bigger
i'd give them a call
