Community Reviews

Brother's compact black and white laser all in one line is praised for long service life, low running costs, and dependable toner support, with generic consumables staying affordable and replacement drums and toner still easy to find. It also prints reliably over USB or on a network, and the hardware itself is described as hard to kill. The main drawbacks are its bulky, heavy footprint and some wireless setup friction, especially from Android phones. A few comments also raise questions about refurbished stock and Amazon Renewed handling, so the appeal is strongest if size and setup hassle are not dealbreakers.

These things are tanks. I bought a Brother DCP-L2550DW on super discount ($80) from Office Depot in 2019 and it still works great.
I got same deal.. it's a tank. Waiting for my 2550 to die.

Can't go wrong with a Brother. Back in early 2000s had dealings with HP and realized what scumbags they were, their support conned an elderly friend into buying a new $55 ink cartridge for an obvious technical problem with the printer, then when it didn't fix it they tried conning her into buying another printer (which used different ink) with a silly discount. From my first Brother printer onward I have purchased nothing but Brothers for myself and others I help with tech. They just work, use third party ink and toners without any problem (this might be changing recently), and you basically have to go full "Office Space" to kill them. Just bought a family member this model to finally get him off of an ancient Brother inkjet that refused to die, he bitched about it for a while since he couldn't scan newspapers "in color" but that's settled down and he's accepted the simplicity and economy of toner. Brother does have some odd glitches with at least their iOS software, my 5850 locks up when I send a large PDF to it from my iPad, still trying to sort out why that is, will print from a Windows machine or send it in smaller batches to workaround.
Why couldn't he scan newspapers in color? This thing absolutely scans in color.

I read that earlier and was going to comment but resisted.

I ended up ordering the refurbished MFC-L2807DW last night for $159.99. It comes with the 'enhanced' starter cartridge and 2 year warranty. It also has fax capability and a better color touch control panel. It's been posted here in previous deals. Brother had a 20% off $150+ over Labor Day that I somehow missed in my email. Oh well. My girlfriend needs this now for her home business.

Brother.com also has the MFC-L2760DW refurbished for $169.99 if you need fax. AI says it's rated for higher print duty and has a touch screen.
FYI - 2760 does NOT have a touch screen

Thank you! I just ordered a 2807 from Brother for $150. Coupons don't work on refurbished products. You didn't miss anything.
