YMMV on this comment- I bought one last night and it came carrier unlocked.

Tested my luck today with getting a 2nd, and it was also carrier unlocked.

Only thing I did differently is I turned phone on without sim, waited to get to the get started screen, added sim into device, then rebooted and set up as normal without using WiFi. Not sure if it matters but hope you all can get lucky with unlocked versions too.

I saw this at a Cricket store and ended up the the 2026 Moto Edge with it's much better specs, improved Sony camera, very bright AMOLED screen with 5,200 nits vs 2026 Power with low tier LCD screen and 1,000 nits. Processor for the Edge is the Media Tek 7450 vs Media Tek 6300 on the Power. The store gave me the online price of $19.99 for the Edge plus plan. FInally a Moto I'll likely keep as it's really nice to use and hits my sweet spot size at 6.3".

No, in my car. Sales guy just gave me phone in box after he did all the account creating on his computer. SIM card is inside the green cricket phone in box package already.

So at worst you pay $40, activate it, cancel, and then wait a year and it'll be unlocked? I'm looking at getting a backup phone. Don't always want to use my Pixel XL 10 pro in some situations (like travelling overseas).

I believe the current unlock policy is 365 days of paid service, so you would need to pay for a year.

$99 when you order online that's why you are seeing that price.

According to my experience. The phone itself is unlocked, but Cricket is using software to lock it. You need some kinda of Cricket service to use it with other carriers, even like with an expired eSIM or SIM card.

That doesn't make sense, if it says unlocked in the settings it's unlocked. Why would you need cricket services to use it with another carrier? That would lock it and defeat the purpose.

I'll go in store and grab one, I'll pop in a sim that works and report back.
