No, that's perfectly legit.

When you get a $15 Target Gift Card for spending $50 on household, you're taxed on the $50.

The gift card is not an upfront discount. you get a real gift card to spend after.

Had it been a rebate you submit for a $200 gift card, you'd be taxed on the $700. No offense, but your logic here is incorrect, the phone is $700, the gift card is a bonus that comes with the $700 phone

I agree if Amazon displays the checkout breakdown like target. They are not. Regardless, those who like this deal can go ahead and buy it.

Or order refurbish direct from Samsung for 400 with old phone trade in. They do the refurbish same like 🍏 where they replace new screen & fresh battery.
