The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is a Windows handheld aimed at entry level PC gaming, with a 7 inch 120Hz VRR screen, strong ergonomics, and two USB C ports for charging and accessories at the same time. It runs PC games natively, streams well from a desktop or laptop, and can be customized with Bazzite or SteamOS. The Z2 A chip is described as capable for most emulation, but weaker for PS3 and Switch and below Z1 Extreme or Z2 Extreme performance. The loud buttons and open box pricing around this level are the main knocks, making it a better fit when portability and flexibility matter more than raw power.

Ok, can someone, who is versed in the subject explain to me if it makes sense to consider this over my Odin 2 Portal with 8gb of ram that runs on android? I typically don't emulate anything past 6th gen systems, but wamt to have an option to play PS3 titles without much tweaking. I also know, that Odin is cable of emulating medium weight PC games with the amount of ram I have. Does this ASUS do a better job at handling later gen consoles and heavier PC games?
this will play aaa pc games.

This is still a great device for entry into handheld PC gaming. For people who don't want to deal with the used market and want to get something at a retail store with a quick return policy if they don't like it and want a manufacturer's warranty, this is still good. It's better than a Steam Deck minus the trackpads, the screen is absolutely better than the one on the Steam Deck LCD with 120Hz and VRR, it has two USB-C ports instead of one on the SD so you can charge on one and connect something like XR glasses to the other if you want, the ergonomics are excellent and the power is plenty capable for most emulation, with the exception of PS3 and Switch, where it's a bit weak. It's great for streaming from a more powerful desktop or laptop gaming PC and if don't like Windows, you can install Bazzite or even SteamOS itself.

At retail, it's honestly the only entry level device left.

For anyone who says the device is weak, yes, it is the lowest powered APU of any current handheld, but LOTS of people still enjoy gaming on the Steam Deck LCD and OLED and this is no weaker than either of those. In fact the memory speed is as fast as what's on the SD OLED and it's got an extra 5W of TDP (20W) over either of the SD variants (15W). It's really not as bad as people make it out to be.

My best use case for my handheld PC is playing controller friendly games that are installed via steam on my PC. I just stream through my wifi. One of my favorite go-to games is No Mans sky. I can stream it for a couple hours or play it natively for a much shorter period. For this price its kind of a great deal.
