This plays PC games natively without the need for emulation and has the capability emulate up to a few PS3 games. If your focus is emulation then stick to the Portal. It'll get you up through PS2 without issue.

I cant imagine paying for more than $400 max for this considering thats what refurb base Steam Deck goes for and what z1e i gifted my brother last year in June was. Dont give in to these ridiculous prices.

Ok, can someone, who is versed in the subject explain to me if it makes sense to consider this over my Odin 2 Portal with 8gb of ram that runs on android? I typically don't emulate anything past 6th gen systems, but wamt to have an option to play PS3 titles without much tweaking. I also know, that Odin is cable of emulating medium weight PC games with the amount of ram I have. Does this ASUS do a better job at handling later gen consoles and heavier PC games?

The problem here is it's the Z2 go chip, which really isn't the best, but it's going to be much more capable over the Odin 2, but not as capable as Z1 Extreme, or Z2 Extreme

Way more, plus you're not limited of what you can run on android, even though x86 emulation exist to run pc games on android it's still on its early stages, this doesn't have to emulate anything and will crush any android device

For this price, don't do it if you live in a populated area where people sell used ROG Ally Z1 Extreme units. go to offerup.com or craigslist and you'll find plenty of people selling theirs for $400 or less. Some with battery or SSD mods already pre installed and it would be A LOT faster than this Z2 A unit. Getting a Z1 extreme unit for around $400 would be a steal when the Z2 extreme is just slightly better but is $800 retail.

Power wise this is the correct take. Gotta weight this against 7" OLED, lighter weight. Slimmer form factor. Android gaming.

Man i was looking at Retroid 6, basically what you have but slightly smaller. For the price, this ain't worth it.

Not sure if you are aware but refurb Steam Deck's are near impossible to get, not to mention, all the 'base' (LCD) models are darn near out of warranty (as of Dec 2025 they stopped being produced) so I highly doubt many will be flowing back to Valve, and if they do get them, they'll not be hitting the Steam page in obtainable quantities.

*Not talking about secondary or used markets.

FWIW, with current 2026 ram prices being what they are...June 2025 might as well been a decade ago.

Knowing nothing about the Ally, I bet it has quieter buttons. What use is a portable device like the Odin 2 portal, when it has clacky buttons that are so loud, you would get death stares from everyone in a 50ft radius.

Haven't used an Odin 2 Portal, but I can confirm the buttons on the Xbox Rog Ally are pretty loud. Love this unit though. Definitely meets my needs since I'm not looking for it to be the most powerful device in my lineup.

I have been messing around with x86 emulation on Android tablets and phones for a while ... And it's still not worth the hassle. With steam frame coming soon, hopefully things get better. But any PC game I actually want to play, either doesn't work, or runs very poorly even if I get it working.
