My service is the best it's been on any MVNO. Spectacular speeds for this area & no drops. Now I also have a 5G phone which really makes it easy to see. Has definitely been worth the initial confusion which tbh was less than many portings I've endured.

Your best bet is to create a new Google account and see if that one is eligible. If so, use that for the Fi service. (It doesn't have to be the same Gmail as the primary account on your phone)

One person here said they got it to work, but based on all the info online and on the Fi sub on Reddit, there's a pretty high chance referral codes will not work with this promo. The terms explicitly say it isn't allowed, so you can give it a shot, but don't be surprised if the CS rep won't add it.
If your account is not eligible for this promo and you don't see the banner in the Play Store, it's NOT going to update "in 24-48hrs". That's the standard boilerplate response from Google Fi's garbage CS, they say that to everyone whenever something is wrong. Just create a new Google account and see if it's eligible.
So far only one person has reported being able to get CS to apply the promo after signing up. Again, you can take your chances with it, but don't be surprised if you pay full price and they won't apply it for you later.
