I got this more than 2 years ago from a previous deal for about $90. Been running non stop since and it is working fine for my local NAS purpose. I have to power it back on if a power surge occurs and it is longer than my APC can last. I also removed the magnetic cover to allow a better cooling. My drives are not going over 50C during hot summer days.

This is great for a backup, but for Nas I would recommend connecting directly to a MB data on a seperate pc, not usb, or use a good cheap HBA.

I have both, usb-a and c versions that have been running for years. I did have to exchange usb-c version after a few months. Process was a massive pain, but I did get a working enclosure eventually.

The USB-A version is $5 cheaper. Code works. Since both versions are transfer rate of up to 5Gbps (MAX), I'm interested in the USB-A one.

Would you recommend the USB-A version over the USB-C version? Since the latter shows no speed advantage, why not save $5? However, the Amazon page shows a big warning, "Frequently returned item" for the USB-A version. How come? The only difference is the I/O port.

I'm using them together without any noticeable difference.

I have two conventional, "toaster-style" hard drive docking stations. One is currently in use, and the other, an Orico brand is still new in a sealed box. This 5-bay enclosure doesn't have a 10Gbps transfer speed, so it doesn't offer an upgrade. Since I only paid $20 or $25 each for my current docks, it's hard to justify buying this 5-bay enclosure right now.

I'm on the same boat. I have 2 2-HD docking stations. Only upgrade this one offers is it takes one less port. It would be a waste if I buy this one.

Am I understanding correctly that all drives are independent and will show up as separate disks?

There is no RAID option here, correct?
