Basically, these GE scales aren't actually measuring body fat % but using a mathematical equation to just give you a number.

Highly recommend against this.
Mostly with scales you want to track trends more than anything regardless. Its far more important that if you step on a scale, and then step off, and step back on again 10 minus later that the numbers match. And then pick up a known 10lb dumbbell or something and measure again and if its exactly 10lbs heavier, then its perfection.
Then you just have to remember to measure at the exact same time of day every day, in my case at night before I go to bed. Otherwise, weight fluctuates way too much throughout the day.
If the body fat and lean mass estimates were at least within 5% of my DEXA, I would have kept it, but it was too far off. I'm still just tracking trends, but I want it to at least be ballpark correct in the first place.
I'm hearing good things about the Renpho MorphoScan Smart, so going to keep an eye out for that one. And maybe the GE isn't that bad and I got a dud out of the box, who knows.
