BP oil spill. People are paying attention NOW, aren't they? *mad face*

18,308 38,677 May 2, 2010 at 10:50 PM in Chat
Unless my "search" button is broken, I can't find any threads about this oil spill.

Aren't there some Loungers here from the Gulf Coast area, besides myself?

This thing is going to be bad. Really bad. Sadwalk

I grew up in Pensacola, FL and have spent my whole life on these beaches. Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Navarre, Destin ... they are beautiful. And they have already suffered so much devastation over the years from hurricanes and now they have to endure THIS?

If this goes on long enough and the oil makes it's way into the Florida Keys, that will be the end of the natural coral reef habitat. What about the dolphins and fish and turtles and birds?

Environmental disaster aside, I can't even imagine what the economic impact is going to be. Weeping

There's plenty of ways to remove the oil from the surface and at lower depths.

But most of those aren't a million dollar machine that was backed by a dingbat from Hollywood.

Anyone watch the speech Costner made? He read from a piece of paper and was terrible at that. He chopped up his sentenced so badly you'd have thought he couldn't read someone's handwriting on the paper Facepalm

The way he was talking wouldn't make me want to buy his product. Poor salesman.

It was Obama's turn to use the teleprompter.

So does everyone else, only problem is no one knows what to do when it occurs in 5000 feet of water because no one has ever been in this predicament yet.

The only good thing to come out of this will be the knowledge of what does and doesn't work in case this ever happens again.

I am so thankful that you are here to tell us all how everything works, and will work. Truly, you should hop the next plane and go offer your services to BP.

My heart is aching watching the videos of all the dead sealife, and birds. It infuriates me that BP has attempted to block anyone from seeing this and photographing it. Mad

I do not claim to know what will work. In case you've missed it, I don't think I have suggested yet that I know better than BP's experts what will or will not work to fix the leak.
But thanks for failing. wave

I watched Kevin Costner testify and I was HIGHLY impressed. He was sympathetic, intelligent, funny and charismatic. If somebody else thought he did poorly, maybe they were inadvertantly watching something else.

His machines DO work. Perhaps not at 5,000 feet. Duh! They are not meant to be submersed in water. shake head

BP has already placed several orders for these machines and Costner said that 5 of the ones that he owns are currently in place somewhere along the LA coastline, doing their job. Good for him! At least he cares enough to do SOMETHING. And he put up 25 million of his own money to start the process. Applause

If BP is "doing their best", then their best isn't good enough! Angry2

They are however, doing their best to hide every ounce of information from the public that they possibly can. Transparency, my ass!!!!!!

You sure do voice your opinion of what WON'T work though. Put your energy where your mouth is if your are so intelligent. Go do something for the ecosystem.

Yeah, he was way more believable yesterday when he testified than he was as Wyatt Earp. Rofl2

The Brits are hatin' us over this, saying we are ruining their pensions that depend on BP, when US companies like Haliburtin are really to blame. They are making comments like we should go fight in Iraq and Afghanistan by ourselves. Anti-American rhetoric is at a new high, while the poor sea creatures suffer and die. I don't care who fixes it, as long as it gets fixed!

The Daily Mail is a very right leaning publication:

America's ALWAYS tried to do down Britain

Misty, I saw those reports today and could not believe how they are defending Tony Hayward and BP! They couldn't care less about what is happening to the Gulf Coast and the people down here.

And that company probably hasn't made a dime since he invested in it and now he sees his opportunity....
