BP oil spill. People are paying attention NOW, aren't they? *mad face*

Unless my "search" button is broken, I can't find any threads about this oil spill.

Aren't there some Loungers here from the Gulf Coast area, besides myself?

This thing is going to be bad. Really bad. Sadwalk

I grew up in Pensacola, FL and have spent my whole life on these beaches. Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Navarre, Destin ... they are beautiful. And they have already suffered so much devastation over the years from hurricanes and now they have to endure THIS?

If this goes on long enough and the oil makes it's way into the Florida Keys, that will be the end of the natural coral reef habitat. What about the dolphins and fish and turtles and birds?

Environmental disaster aside, I can't even imagine what the economic impact is going to be. Weeping

I bet it won't seem quite as funny if BP goes out of business and it is left up to the taxpayers to clean up the mess.

Yep, pretty intelligent for all those people to be giving their money to Hugo Chavez and his Citgo stations instead. Thumbup

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do not believe that a boycott will put BP out of business. But if I bought gas at a BP station, I would feel as though I'm either oblivious to what they have done, or worse, that I am willing to turn a blind eye to it.

I (and millions of people just like me), am/are neither oblivious or willing to look the other way.

There are so many market factors and ways BP can get the oil to the market that it's laughable that a boycott will have any measurable impact. Most of the major, mid-level and small players are not going to care one way or the other about the propaganda the regime spews about BP daily.

Consumer gas sales are one of hundreds of ways oil companies make money. Yet, it's the one with the most face-value since that's our most direct interaction with big-oil.

Really, that 600,000 person group on facebook is just a giant circle jerk. Really, it ends up hurting the BP franchises who had nothing to do with the oil spill. I don't think there are any corporate owned gas stations.

The franchises don't make policy. They are stuck with the BP name but no power or perks to go with it.

For people who can't help clean a beach or save the life of a bird or sea turtle or donate thousands of dollars, a boycott may be all they have in terms of feeling like they are "doing something".

If I feel that someone's heart is in the right place, I refuse to judge them just because a handful of people on the internet seem to think they know better. Especially if those internet "experts" are barely past puberty and have no life lessons of their own to share.

Technically, a boycott isn't "doing something"; it's really someone "doing nothing"

I support BP 100%, they are doing a great job.

Other are nothing but a bunch of whiners on the sideline complaining.

I disagree.

Don't buy your gas at BP but buy snacks, drinks, milk, cigarettes/tobacco products (if that's your vice), lottery tickets, etc. All of that helps the station owner stay in business but gives nothing to BP.

MsGal, usually I agree with you, but not on this one. I have been purposely buying BP gas to help keep them in business. If the "boycotter's" had their way, BP will become bankrupt. "The boycotter's" would then "feel good" about what they have done to drive a business (which had an accident & inept leaders - what a surprise...) into bankruptcy while ignoring that they have actually bankrupted the folks that invested into BP (through 401k's & pension plans). How does that help anything or anyone??

We need to clean the dang thing up pronto. Why is our government not interested in doing that??

Because we have a POS POTUS who creates conflict and wants to "kick ass" instead of getting the best minds of their field of expertise together ..... to figure out how to cap the well, clean up the ocean, help the wildlife, compensate the lost income of thousands and pay for it all. Cool

Amen. Too bad the "kicked asses" won't figure out who they are until it's too late.

Since Obama took responsibility and said he was going to kick the asses of those responsible, shouldn't he be kicking his own ass?

And can some sort of charity drive be set up where you can donate cash and kick Obama's ass?

Cause you know, there'd be a huge line. And some charity would make a ton of cash.
