It all depends. There are times where a chainsaw is useful - limbing. A chainsaw will cut much quicker than just about any other saw. That said, if you're doing a lot of work near the ground then a recip saw with a long blade will last longer - a chainsaw will destroy itself in dirt. (plus you can plunge cut in dirt with a recip saw, e.g. cutting tree roots).
That said I would suggest a pole mounted chainsaw if possible - I wouldn't be cutting down a legit tree with a battery powered saw, I'm pretty much just going to be using it for limbs so why not get a battery powered pole chainsaw. On that topic, Walmart's HART brand of extensions is compatible with the dewalt 60V power unit.
