Might be eligible for an upgrade to Googlebook OS (Google's new Android-based desktop OS) down the line, although the 8GB of RAM might be a sticking point – since every Gbook launch model has 16GB

Not tech savvy, I need a place to store thousands of photos- would this work? I don't have a home computer or laptop at this time.

Likely not this only has around a 225-240gb amount of space available for storage. I would get a dedicated laptop that you can swap storage to at least a 1tb hard drive. Especially if you have lots of photos and videos

Doubt. Google released a support document last week about this, and the ones listed as soon eligible are 16GB RAM, and they left a note along the lines of "any Chromebook scheduled to get updates beyond June 2034 will be given an option to migrate closer to that date over to Googlebook OS". While this is a Core 3 100U that launched 2024, so at best would be right at the June 2034 cutoff. Funny enough though, at least on the devices in demo mode, this exact Samsung model listed June 2032, so unless it's a bug, since it's not 2035 or later, might be Chromebook Plus/ChromeOS for life. Still at these prices, it's a great device for home use.

You gotta ask the real questions: Where are those pictures sourced from? Remember, MOST people use camera phone at stock (12MP) settings, so each photo is maybe 4-8MB in size. Having 210-220GB can store quite a few thousand on device (220GB should be about 27,500 photos, if each one is 8MB), but why would you want to store EVERYTHING on one device? Back them up. This device has two USB-C full service ports, a USB-A port, so you can back up to an external if you prefer local storage management, and as long as someone didn't redeem the offers, this should give you 12 months free of Google AI Pro on your Gmail account, so you get 5TB of storage to share across every device that has access to Google apps.
