This ExpertBook CX54 open box deal stands out for strong specs at a low price, with the Core Ultra 5, 16GB LPDDR5X, touchscreen, and 2K display making it feel fast for everyday use. The Chromebook Plus hardware also appears capable of running Windows, though that path can bring driver and audio issues and may require BIOS flashing. Open box condition has ranged from nearly pristine to display model wear, so battery health and screen condition are the main things to check. A solid value if the unit you get is in good shape.

Common Questions (5)

The Core Ultra 5, 16GB LPDDR5X, and touchscreen specs are strong enough for Windows 11, but Windows installs can run into driver issues on some components. Audio and power-saving features may not work correctly, and some installs may require flashing the BIOS.

Battery health has ranged from about 83% with 425-435 charge cycles to 93% with 2 cycles and 99% on a near-unused unit. Open-box units can therefore arrive anywhere from heavily used display-model condition to nearly new.

Many units have arrived with no screen burn-in and no scratches, but some open-box examples have shown heavy external scratches. Checking the display before leaving the store is important, especially because display-model units can have wear.

Chromebook diagnostics can show battery details clearly: open Diagnostics in the launcher/explorer and click Battery. That view lists the battery information, including health and cycle count.

Yes, several open-box units included AI Pro, and one pickup specifically reported 1 year of AI Pro. The listing can therefore come with the subscription bundled in, but it appears to vary by unit.

Fished one out and BB is next to my fave cheesesteak place Ws all around 😁

Update: so went and got open box Good condition $285. This thing is actually brand new like no signs of use what so ever. Been running this for few days and absolutely loving it. My 5yr old Windows laptop 8gb ram pales in comparison to Asus Expert Book which btw flies like an eagle. More than happy with it's performance. GG

Same with my unit It has 99% battery and AI Pro, and it still had the factory covers; the box was pristine. The notes on the open-box sticker mentioned residue, but I do not see any. listed as good condition.

I think with Chromebooks in particular, many people don't know what they're getting into.

Within the first few hours of not finding the programs they want and hitting into various limitations, they get frustrated and return it to the store. It then becomes a barely used open-box item.

Bought an open box fair condition... fairly heavy scratches externally... I feel like this is used, not open box. Deciding whether to return or not

97% battery health, 47 cycle count. Hmm...

Mine is opposite, perfect condition physically, but 83% and 425 charge cycle, I'm guessing this is the display model. Since this isn't going to be my main machine, I'm thinking of just keeping it, change battery in the future

I believe I just searched for diagnostics in the explorer and clicked battery and it listed everything nicely.

I need a second device for dev work on windows desktop software...ugh. I'm guessing this would be a terrible choice even if I manage to put windows on it? It's such a good price I'm trying to justify this over a miniPC, lol...help me
