The Retroid Pocket 5 is a compact Android retro handheld that stands out for strong emulation at its price, especially PS2, GameCube, Wii, and much of the Switch library, with some light Steam and Android gaming possible too. The 5.5 inch OLED screen, larger controls, and clean black design are recurring highlights, and newer batches appear to ship with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Setup takes some tinkering, and the device is not truly pocketable. The small screen and 60Hz streaming latency are the main drawbacks, and more demanding Xbox or PlayStation 3 gaming still calls for a pricier handheld.

  • The RP5 can emulate much of the Switch library, including Breath of the Wild at full speed using 1x resolution.

  • The RP5 can run lighter Steam games when using ArmadaOS, DroidDeck, or GameNative.

  • The RP5 can run the entire PS2 and GameCube libraries without issue using Turnip drivers.

  • The RP5 can upscale PS2, GameCube, and 3DS systems, which helps improve the handheld's overall retro output.

  • The RP5's small 5.5-inch screen can cause eye discomfort for some players.

  • The RP5 may require firmware or calibration work to fully benefit from 120Hz, even when the hardware supports it.

  • The RP5's 60Hz refresh rate can add noticeable latency when streaming.

  • The RP5 can have significant input lag over HDMI on Android, which can hurt fast gameplay on a TV.

How does this compare to the s26 fe for emulation? https://slickdeals.net/f/20084589
That Exynos 2500 will be a bottleneck.

RP5 firmware doesn't cap refresh rate to 60Hz. PULSE (https://github.com/keiretrogaming/pulse) can switch refresh rate to 120Hz on recent batch of RP5 with 120Hz screen. The problem is the lack of proper 120Hz calibration on RP5.

I got home and was able to check it, and, surprisingly, I got 12GB ram on my RP5.....I didn't think it would be since when I bought it ($168 at Aliexpress on 9/14) it didn't say either way about the ram.
Thank you for verifying. That 4gb jump is what made me bite so good for others on the fence to know

Like I alluded to in my other comment, I bought a Thor (after coupon's and CB) for less than $300 and sold for over $600 on eBay...USED. Due to lead times you'll be invested in this situation for quite some time so unless you were trying to flip multiple units, may not be worth the effort for most people. Is doable though, especially since people on eBay will pay fat $ not to wait in line. I also have perfect feedback and take care of my stuff, including packaging. So I think that adds some perceived value on eBay.*And no, I don't consider what I did as scalping. I bought the unit for my own use, didn't fit my use case, and sold The market paid what the market paid. I've had some people suggest I should have sold it at a loss....just out of principle....LOL.
Oh no. I would have done the same thing. I've sold stuff before with a low reserve because that's what thought the market was. Low and behold, I was wrong and others like you said value their time.

Definitely not scalping. Because I buy all my handhelds as part of some wild promotion/deal, I sell all of them for more than what I paid when it comes time to upgrade. People pay the higher prices for a lot of reasons, convenience being the biggest one. Some people don't want to wait 1-2 months before they get their device, some people don't trust AliExpress, etc.

Odin 2 is Snapdragon 8Gen2 I think. From what I heard, you need a 8Gen1 at least if you want to run that app that allows you transform your unit into a steam deck. This is a 865 about a 6 year old SoC. I have it in my current S20u phone. It's ok for emulation, especially on a smaller display. But you lose out on the 4x,6x 8X AA and other upscale options. Which on a tablet 10+ in I can clearly see. I'll wait a few more years, not in a major rush. I just like playing around but hardly even use more then 10 hrs a month on games
Are you talking about ArmadaOS? I think I'm going to try that out on the Portal.

Regarding the 865, I'd love to see it in a compact 4" stick top handheld to EDC someday. It handles most PS2/GC just fine. A 4:3 Flip 2 mini with slim inline triggers would be a pocket PS2 dream!

Amen, this is likely my 20th retro handhand (no joke) and I think I have only lost money selling 2 of them, both Magicx / XU Retro devices. Not because there is anything wrong with Magicx (the opposite in fact), but the brand is a little niche and unknown. And I think you are right that many people gravitate to eBay even if things are not backordered elsewhere just because they don't understand or want to deal with AE. And like I alluded to before, my perfect seller rating and long standing eBay account can't hurt either. I also make sure to take photos of EVERYTHING and at every angle. That drives up prices too and poorly photo'd listings often sell well below value.

I do value my time and I am never in a rush to sell something. I'd rather the listing chill for a few weeks at high 'buy it now' price then sell ASAP for a hundred less. You know pretty quick if you listed too high because you don't get any views or 'watching' people. That's when I start inching down pricing until those numbers begin creeping up. Once 2-3 people at watching, stay there, and normally you'll get a sale within a week or two. If you take care of your stuff, list the item well, and take good photos, buyers perceive and pay for that value. Taking 15 minutes making a decent listing can lead to 50% higher end price. IMO that is worth the time investment.

Coupon code no longer works and it tries to add $100 on top of the price at checkout. Yeah, nah.

Retroid 6 or Odin 2 Portal? Would rather buy once, cry once.
Then Odin 3 is for you.
