The Retroid Pocket 5 is a compact Android retro handheld that stands out for strong emulation at its price, especially PS2, GameCube, Wii, and much of the Switch library, with some light Steam and Android gaming possible too. The 5.5 inch OLED screen, larger controls, and clean black design are recurring highlights, and newer batches appear to ship with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Setup takes some tinkering, and the device is not truly pocketable. The small screen and 60Hz streaming latency are the main drawbacks, and more demanding Xbox or PlayStation 3 gaming still calls for a pricier handheld.

Spend 2x - 3x more today, and perhaps, by 2027, you might have lucked into the correct chipset for the emulator built as a hobby by a 3rd party to finally be ready? Let's not even talk about how fragmented the emulator scene is and how often projects are abandoned and change hands. Name any Switch emulator....ever.
Though I'd be interested in leaening how you made hundreds selling the Thor, your point is valid. I have a rog ally x that Im just getting into to play the fancier Final Fantasy games. I also have a RG476h that I really like, but I have a dead zone between the rog and the emulators.
Recent ebay sales are all over, but it looks like you can get ~$100-120 for a 476. So in theory I get an additional 4gb and an updated processor (that is a bit long in tooth but still works) for ~$40-50
FWIW, I had a RG476H and really liked it but it was weak compared to the RP5, especially the 12GB current version. But I think the RP5 is a pretty decent goldiloocks zone of power vs price. Would I rather have a RP6, sure, do I think it is worth nearly double the money to open up almost no extra emulation, no. That being said, the 476 screen was really good and 4:3 if that is your thing. I also like the hand feel better. Another 4:3 system to maybe consider would be the RG Slide, same chipset as the 476 and you can get them new on AE for roughly $110 using coupons and not even considering CB. Never tried the Slide but my understanding it is a love or hate type thing.
Well, the 12gig Thor sells for over $400 now new and frequently goes out of stock/has long wait times. I don't find it hard to believe you could sell it used for enough to buy a $250 RP6.
*And no, I don't consider what I did as scalping. I bought the unit for my own use, didn't fit my use case, and sold The market paid what the market paid. I've had some people suggest I should have sold it at a loss....just out of principle....LOL.
Lately seen alot of the renpy 🦠repacks
This is a 865 about a 6 year old SoC. I have it in my current S20u phone. It's ok for emulation, especially on a smaller display. But you lose out on the 4x,6x 8X AA and other upscale options. Which on a tablet 10+ in I can clearly see.
I'll wait a few more years, not in a major rush. I just like playing around but hardly even use more then 10 hrs a month on games

**update I pulled the trigger. Most sites were saying retroid ran out of 8gb so this should come with 12gb
I got home and was able to check it, and, surprisingly, I got 12GB ram on my RP5.....I didn't think it would be since when I bought it ($168 at Aliexpress on 9/14) it didn't say either way about the ram.
