The Retroid Pocket 5 is a compact Android retro handheld that stands out for strong emulation at its price, especially PS2, GameCube, Wii, and much of the Switch library, with some light Steam and Android gaming possible too. The 5.5 inch OLED screen, larger controls, and clean black design are recurring highlights, and newer batches appear to ship with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Setup takes some tinkering, and the device is not truly pocketable. The small screen and 60Hz streaming latency are the main drawbacks, and more demanding Xbox or PlayStation 3 gaming still calls for a pricier handheld.

Retroid 6 or Odin 2 Portal? Would rather buy once, cry once.
When it goes to tech there is no buy once.

This was top of the line at this size 2 years ago. Something will be much better than the 6 in 2 years.

By all means if you'll use the extra power then spend more. But don't expect to future proof here - buy for what you actually plan on using in the next 1-2 years.

Got an Odin 2 Portal and set it up last week. It needs tweaking and some specific drivers to run various emulators but once it's set up, it can run anything up to and including Switch games nearly flawlessly.

The issue is PS3 and Xbox 360 emulation is still a joke on android. So you might be paying for horsepower you can't really use, depending on your use case of course. Also Switch emulation works, or it doesn't at this price point. You'll open up your Switch options a little, but not a lot even by spending double on another android retro handheld such as an Odin, or triple on a Thor. But most Switch games that won't play on the RP5, really need something like a Steam Deck (or better) to truly enjoy because they are doing something weird, for example with Unreal Engine, or are emulated themselves (even on the Switch), such as Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Anything more 'retro' doesn't matter now much CPU you throw at it, the games (generally) can't run any better once you hit a certain threshold.FWIW, I recently downgraded from an Ayn Thor Pro 12GB to this exact handheld and I haven't found a single Switch game I could play on the Ayn Thor, that I can't play on the RP5. Made several hundred in pure profit selling my USED Thor on eBay, and basically bought this for free using the profit….with money to spare.*If you want to do Steam / PC games, that is an entirely different conversation.
Though I'd be interested in leaening how you made hundreds selling the Thor, your point is valid. I have a rog ally x that Im just getting into to play the fancier Final Fantasy games. I also have a RG476h that I really like, but I have a dead zone between the rog and the emulators.

Recent ebay sales are all over, but it looks like you can get ~$100-120 for a 476. So in theory I get an additional 4gb and an updated processor (that is a bit long in tooth but still works) for ~$40-50

RP6, Nova, or nothing Smilie

But the RP5 is still a great device at that price.

Well, the 12gig Thor sells for over $400 now new and frequently goes out of stock/has long wait times. I don't find it hard to believe you could sell it used for enough to buy a $250 RP6.

"Made several hundred" is not 100-150

Saw it before checkout if I used that payment ($12 discount). Then at checkout added the coupon from the post. Both show in the invoice. Dont know if it's account target or for everyone

If there are any RP5s still available so late at this stage then I'm in for one.

The RP5 can play around 70% of the Switch games, which isn't bad. But the screen is too small for me.

I used to own an Odin 3 Max, but I ended up selling it because my eyes hurt from playing on the small screen.
Now I have a Portal 2 and an ROG Ally X, both with 7-inch screens.
I'm hoping the Portal 3 comes with an 8.4-inch screen, that would be even better.

The only con at this price is the 60Hz which adds noticeable latency for streaming
