The new 'big boy' Predator generator is on sale Saturday Oct 3rd for $1100

Amazing deal for a 500cc engine, the only thing that sucks is the CO Sensor, but otherwise this would be a good whole-house generator for most medium sized homes.

California compliant

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) provides easy start-ups, lower maintenance, and increased efficiency

Ultrapowerful PREDATOR® 500cc engine provides over 60% more starting power and reliable performance

Integrated digital display makes it easy to monitor output volts, frequency, and run hours
Automatic idle down reduces noise and extends runtime on jobsite

Digital automatic voltage regulator provides stable output power, keeping tools and appliances protected

Electronic throttle optimizes engine performance to maintain stable output and extend generator life

Durable 10 in. wheels and foldable handle for increased mobility over rough terrain
Heavy duty 1.25 in. steel frame for protection and easy tie-down support

Includes: (4) 120V 5-20R GFCI-protected outlets, 120/240V 14-50R RV outlet, 120/240V L14-30R twist lock outlet, 120V L5-30R twist lock outlet

Keep the battery charged, because with Electronic Fuel Injection, you need power to start the generator.

Nice not having a carburetor though.

The 13,000 Predator is 7% THD, so that's lower than my Utility Company power (who is 10% THD).

I would assume this would follow the same pattern; but we won't know until some youtuber or HVAC guy measures it.

I lived in an area hit by hurricanes several times a year and would be without power weeks at a time. I would run off of generators frequently. Zero electronic failures. The THD argument is BS.

It's also about a third the price of an inverter generator.

Yep.

All your phone chargers and laptops can run on any voltage from 100vac to 250vac and anywhere from 50 to 60hz. No voltage adapters needed.

Inverters are good for camping and RV parks because they are quieter.

But to run your whole house, you need a big, regular generator that can run for 1000s of hours.

It was a rumor for the last 6 months that HF had a larger 500cc Electronic Fuel Injection generator coming out that was the HF version of the DuroMAX xp1500:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/DUROM.../336881084

So it's possible that California versions got delivered first.

If your local store did not get the 14500 yet, they are offering the 13000 for $899 today only.

I read the 13kw predators produce upwards of 23% THD

All the videos show 7%.

Even if it was 25% THD, that still would not hurt any 'sensitive electronics'.

Back 4 or 5 decades ago, there were generators that would spit out 39hz, and would cause some jobsite motors to overheat. I haven't seen one of those in forever.

Use some common sense with any generator:

Don't have ANY load connected when you shut-down or start-up

Don't use motorized tools that don't have thermal protection built in

If you have some antique electronics that were made before universal power supplies became standard; just don't use them during the power failure.

Look at the HZ meter on the generator. It should read 61-63hz with no load, then 59-60 under load. As you keep turning stuff on, if the hz drops to like 54hz or lower, you may be overloading the generator (unplug some stuff and try to keep the hz around 60).

Has anyone come up with a bypass for the CO sensor? I picked up the 13kw Predator at HF over the weekend during their 1 day sale for $899. Considering the Pulsar 10.5kw inverter generator instead. Its only dual fuel but I run ethanol free gas in my small engines and my 6500 watt 20 year old generator has never needed carb work done on it. Proper oil changes after extended runs. My only concern with the predator is the CO sensor that can't seem to be bypassed and the THD for more fragile electronics like ovens, dryers, washing machines with sensitive boards. i have a soft start on my 3.5 ton AC so i can get away with 10.5kw vs 13kw gen for 95% of my house.

I did pin-out the new 9 pin CO sensor when I replaced the hour display for a customer (it's in the top, left hand side of the control panel). The wiring colors randomly change at connectors along the harness, but it's pretty straightforward.

If you take the cover off of the sensor, the circuit board itself is labeled.

I can give you the pin-out if you need it.

That would be great for future reference, thanks!
