Nah I just bought a VA panel. IMO high end VA > high end IPS > IPS > VA. OLED is best but suffers burn in still and I'd rather not buy a monitor every 3 years.

To be specific I picked up an Alienware AW3426DWM 34 inch ultrawide. So far I love this monitor but it's over twice as much. This released in July this year I think but I doubt it will be a big seller. VA panels haven't matured much tech wise in a while and R&D/marketing is being spent on OLED. Once they figure out how to eliminate burn in then VA and IPS will be obsolete. Right now though the value proposition isn't there for me considering how long I plan to keep this monitor for productivity. Games look great too. I was able to play some Apex Legends and my didn't notice any smearing but if I was a competitive Counter Strike player I'd probably get a 24 inch 1080 500hz monitor lol. However 99% of people don't have that career ambition. Curved ultrawides tend to be either OLED or VA nowadays and I don't think paying extra for OLED is worth it right now. The Samsung Odyssey line was top tier VA a few years ago but from what I researched recently Samsung has given up on VA tech and is all in on OLED.

I read that burn in basically isn't a thing anymore with pixel shifting, and other options. I'm sure this is reserved for higher end OLED panels, but I don't know. Appreciate your input, thanks. Wink

Burn in is more of a concern on a PC than it is on a TV unless you are watching like CNN or something where a logo is "stuck" int he same place all day. Burn in on a PC is most likely to happen with the task bars and stuff, but yeah with the software tricks, they do a lot better these days. Wouldn't say it's a non issue, just not as much of one. Think 5-6 years to burn in instead of 2-3.

I only have OLED on my laptops, so 5-6 years is going to outlive their useful life for me by a few years minimum, maybe 3-4, but for a desktop monitor a lot of people like to buy high end ones and keep them for a decade+ in which case skip oled even now.

Just know where you are gonna put it. It's a bit dim and i wouldnt use it facing a a window for example but the quality is good for this price point.

OH wow, 5-6 years with pixel shifting is still way too low. I had no idea.

Seems real slick to me. 1ms latency, 1440p, 180hz, $150. My monitor is the same but ips and 165hz. I paid like $300 a few years ago, and I love it. Typing to you on it right now. I consider this slick. However, I'm not a pro when it comes to monitors. I'd look up youtube reviews for further information. However, if you have an Nvidia card, there is 1 caveat.

This monitor officially lists AMD FreeSync; users can typically enable G-Sync Compatibility manually through the NVIDIA Control Panel when connected via DisplayPort, though it is not officially certified as NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible out of the box like the G50F variant. Basically you'll get the best experience if you own a AMD graphics card when it comes to screen sync.

I've only had it for about a week but I love it. I was hesitant about if it was the right choice but it's really impressed me.

Pros: price point (especially if you sign up through Alienware and rank up free Dell points, too long to explain), sturdy stand (better than the standard Dell monitors), lots of inputs and remembers if an input is set at 16:9, games look fantastic even though people will generalize that VA panels can't do this right (i.e. ghosting not a problem here), steam deck outputs nicely (HDMI dock maxes out at 60 Hz)

Cons: in some ways buying an IPS gives you better bang for your buck spec wise but I wanted a curved utrawide with higher contrast (ideal if you are up late in a dark room), 3440 x 1440 so it is 2K ultrawide not 4K ultrawide (which is IMO too much graphics for games to really handle now with high refresh/settings and personal budget), games might need mods to scale full screen which may deter some, I wouldn't mind a USB-C with display port alt mode instead of the DisplayPort input as that is going to be more common place in following years and for good reason, HDR is just ok but that wasn't high on my list anyway, internal PSU so no power brick which looks clean but the power cable is kind of short, no speakers or headphone jack but I route through an audio interface anyway

Agreed. I mean CURRENT Oleds may perform even better but... you won't know for 5-6 years and by then it's too late Stick Out Tongue
