AD5X Owner here. Just a warning, seems as if FlashForge has made an update to its software and is causing lots of issues with signing in and to send prints over WiFi. People are using LAN however people reporting that isn't working either. I have been loading the GCode via usb drive to remedy this recent issue. All of this is well documented in the Facebook Ad5x groups. I love my AD5X, but this is a great inconvenience so new buyers be aware!

What do you mean it wastes filament?
When you making a printing something mutli colored, most (not all) will purge the filament inside the nozzle with the color you're changing to. This can happen at every single layer being printed so that does generate a ton of waste.

Some newer printers have ways around this, like changing tool heads (i.e. the filament stays inside the print head and changes colors by changing print heads)... or some have print heads that you can load up with 4 different filaments so there's a lot less to purge.

That all said, there are better ways to handle multi colored prints... usually by printing all the parts of the same color at once and assembling them when it's all done.

I've been printing since February this year and I've only needed to make a multi colored print maybe 3-4 times (across 2K hours of printing).

Any issues ordering from Aliexpress? Is it as secure as one would expect for an e-commerce sight?

If you don't receive your item and you ask for a refund . Their system is automated and ask for proof pictures . You say "I didn't receive it " . System close your case and you don't get anything . Happened to me 5 mins ago

Good deal but once you touch a multi toolhead printer you'll never want to use anything else for multicolor. The filament and time saving will more than make up for the price difference in the long run.

Yes... I used them for years, no issues. Then I had an order for seven things for my daughter this summer. "Delivery confirmation" pics showed that it was delivered to the wrong address. After two months of fighting AliExpress, PayPal, and my credit card company I lost my dispute because there was a "delivery confirmation". It was like talking to a wall trying to explain I never received it....had to send pictures of my house as well...which still didn't help me. Deleted my account with AliExpress.

So, it's definitely a roll of the dice with AliExpress.

Do you have an example of a multi tool head printer that is comparable to this model?

Flashforge had the Creator 5 for $600ish. Prusa has the XL but it's $3-4,000 lol

Just wanted to chime in and say we've had our AD5X running a LONG time (about 1-2 years). This thing is a beast for the price range.
My daughter recently accidentally ripped off the LCD and cable. Flashforge confirmed we were out of warranty. When I asked how I could purchase the parts, they told me don't worry about it. This somehow got lost in translation and we had the parts show up at our door in about 5 days.

Awesome company and stellar printer.

The enclosure sucks (used thermal duct tape to finish it)

My 7-year-old son and I are looking to get into 3D printing. I've been reading reviews, but there's so much information out there that it's a little overwhelming. Our max budget is $600. Would this be a good beginner printer for us? I've also seen a lot of reviewers recommend spend up for the Bambu Lab P1S. I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.
Yes. My son and I started with a 3d printer with no auto leveling, a nozzle that consistently clogged, and no applicable printer profile in the software. This 3d printer makes it just as EASY to 3d print as paper printing. Open the Flashforge software, choose your printer, import a model, export to a printable format with a click of a button (gcode), and print.

I've had mine for about 2 months and love it. I think I ended up with it for about $210, as others have mentioned the price fluctuates almost daily. Only drawback is the printing plate is a little smaller than the most popular printers like Bambu, so sometimes I'll have to be a little creative in slicing my item before printing, but don't let that deter you, still a really nice printer at an amazing price.

I'll simply add that painting is far easier and more customizable than printing multiple parts and assembly, given a once-color printer.

Which is why I'm waiting for Creator 5 to go on sale. Once it hits the number I'm willing to pay, I'll jump on it, just to make those multi-color prints easy, fast, and waste-free.

Until then, I'll just grab the paint and Mod Podge for here and there.
