I was shopping today at Home Depot and saw this. Looked very nice.
Site states this price is $900 Savings with rebates and promotions. I see a $100 Rebate listed.

Sale price through Oct 21st.

UPDATED: I removed the $100 rebate information, as it is limited to those using a certain electricity delivery company. So, very YMMV. But by all means, take a look at the rebate before buying to see if you can qualify. The rebate may not even be listed, based on your store's zip code. So no need to give false hope in this thread...
If it shows a rebate link under the price for you, click on its terms to see if it applies to you.

GE makes great appliances but why would anyone put the water dispenser inside the door? That has to really run up your electric bill opening the so many times each day just to drink water.

I used to feel the same way. Then I realized that cold air sinks. So it is not the same loss of cold as opening the fridge doors. Doing that lets the cold air fall out of the front of the fridge towards the ground. With a bottom freezer, it's like opening the chest freezer. Very little loss of energy in comparison.

The advantage is saving time waiting for a full cup of ice to be dispensed, and more fridge space.

Makes sense looking at it that way.
Good Info.

Related:

Some factors to consider when choosing between an upright frost-free freezer vs a chest model.
1) The extra energy used for opening a vertical door vs. a lid, as mentioned. All the cold air gets quickly dumped out. So the compressor has to run more.
2) Frost-free uprights mean more freezer burn, due to the temperature cycling to prevent frost buildup. That makes the lifespan of your frozen goods shorter.

So either way, there is a trade-off.
Chest freezers build up frost, and you can't tell what buried treasure you have in them.

On the other hand, chest freezers are a cheaper investment to buy in general, based on volume.

Convenience seems to trump the other factors. So uprights are more in demand. They may not last as long because of more wear and tear.

Why is there always good news/bad news? No perfect solution.
