This Cricket iPhone 16e bundle is mainly attractive for getting a new 128GB phone with two months of service and a one year unlock path. The strongest appeal is for niche uses like iOS app testing, and the phone can also carry meaningful Apple trade in value. The main drawback is the ongoing service cost, which has been described as expensive compared with cheaper carriers and alternative phone deals. Port in activation can take a few tries, and the deal has reportedly worsened from earlier pricing.

Common Questions (5)

  • Use a temporary port-in number to complete the Cricket purchase, then transfer your real line onto the new iPhone 16e with eSIM after setup. The phone can then show up in the MyCricket app on that line, and the temporary number can be left to expire.

  • The deal totals about $720 for a year of service plus the 128GB iPhone 16e, while an unlocked 16e from Best Buy is about $570 after tax. It makes sense mainly if you value the bundled year of service or need a specific use case like a Wi‑Fi-only iPhone for development and testing.

  • A Cricket-locked iPhone 16e is still carrier-locked, so it is not automatically usable on Red Pocket GSMA just because both use AT&T's network. It should only be expected to work on Cricket until it unlocks, which is reported to take a year on this deal.

  • Yes, the plan can reportedly be dropped to Cricket's $30 plan after the $60 plan expires. Another option mentioned is buying a 3-month plan for $45 instead of staying on the higher-priced monthly service.

  • Yes, the phone is reported to be unlockable after about a year on Cricket. That is a change from older Cricket promos that unlocked after 6 months.

how is that done as there is no sim slot on the 16e?
Oh snap good question. Didn't realize 16e was esim only. I'm a cricket user so just wanted to sim swap onto existing line to replace old phone on our (max number of lines already) family plan. guess i gotta dig into easiest way to do that now.

Looks like they made the deal a bit worse. It's now $9.99 for the phone + 3 months service @ $60. So $190 total instead of $170.

I hear you as a sim swap is fast and easy. The iPhone 13 was the last to have a physical sim.

Ok this was a let easier than i was worried about.

to swap the line in on my already full family plan:
  1. Get a port in number from somewhere (i did $13 boost number from portnumbersforsale.com, had number and details within an hour)
  2. go to cricket, do the port in deal to a new account.
  3. Wait for phone delivery (2 days fedex)
  4. go through normal phone setup and activation. if moving from iphone you can have it get settings from nearby phone or icloud
  5. if from nearby phone other will ask of you want to transfer phone number. I chose not to at this point and let the phone activate and set up on the new number. Not sure if this was necessary
  6. After setup is complete, do the number transfer by going to Settings-Cellular-Add eSIM
  7. Select Transfer from Nearby iPhone. Follow the prompts and verification steps on two phones.
  8. give it a minute or so and both numbers should now be on the new phone.
  9. Optional - reverse the process to transfer the temp number to the old phone. (i didnt)
  10. If you still have both numbers on the new phone set your real number as primary
  11. Optional "turn off" the temporary number in that settings page
  12. Test a text and/or phone call using your real number

at this point everything worked fine. supposedly in 60 days the temp number account will cancel and the phone will just have the family plan accounts i looked in three mycricket app and it immediately showed the new phone on that line. so in a year of use on cricket plan this should be unlockable

Showing as $12.99. Is that the regular price?
That is what I paid and price was $12.99 on portanumber.com and I got what I needed in less than 2 mins
