This Boost Mobile iPhone 16e port in deal is really about the low upfront price, but it comes with strict service terms. The checkout fine print says the line must stay active for at least three months, or Boost can charge the full MSRP minus what was already paid. The phone also has to be activated within 30 days, and the account may be billed automatically on the card used at checkout. Unlock timing is still a concern, with Boost policy pointing to 12 months of active service.
Common Questions (4)
Yes. The checkout terms say you must maintain service on the activated line for a minimum of three months, or Boost can charge the full MSRP minus any amount already paid. The phone also must be activated within 30 days of purchase to avoid the same MSRP charge.
The terms authorize Boost to automatically charge the payment method on file, and comments say they may also charge cards used on the order and send collections if the account is not kept in good standing. If the device is not activated within 30 days or the 3-month service minimum is not met, the full MSRP can be billed back.
Boost chat says downgrading to the $25 plan during months 2 or 3 is not permitted on this promotion, and changing plans may trigger loss of the promotional offer. The agent also said the promo requires staying on the $60 plan for 12 months, which conflicts with the checkout terms that only mention 3 months of service.
Boost's unlocking policy is cited as requiring 12 months of active, paid service before the phone can be unlocked. One reported case says an iPhone bought from Boost was unlocked even after service stopped after the first month, but that does not match the stated policy.

For potentially saving up to $70 for not paying the full $60 plan for months 2-3, I doubt it would be worth fighting if they turn you down when you attempt to downgrade for those months (AS THIS CSR IS CERTAIN THEY WILL NOT ALLOW).
Here is the transcript:
Z: Hi there! Thanks for reaching out to Boost. I'm Zeyad, and I am happy to help! Can you tell me more about your concern?
ME: For the iPhone 16e promotion, there is this affirmation at checkout. I must keep service for 3 months or be charged the retail value less the amount paid for the discounted phone. *****************I have a question about this. Would I be allowed to switch plan from $60 to $25 for months 2 and 3? Or must we stay on the $60 plan for 3 months. It does not specify...
Z: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
Sure thing! We can definitely check this for you.
so you mentioned that you wanted to check for the terms of the 16e promo
ME: yes
Z: the plan needs to be $60 for a year
ME: The terms say only 3 months. I am not asking about the unlock policy.
Z: yes the plan needs to be 12 months then it can be changed
ME: So if I understand you I can pay $60 for 3 months but not $60 + $25 + $25.
Z: I'm sorry. What do you mean?
ME: Read my first comment again.
I am required to keep active for 3 months to avoid being charged full price for the phone.
Z: If you want to get the iphone 16e for 149.99 you will be required to stay on the $60 plan for a year.
ME
The promotion is for $29.99 for the phone and $60 for one mopnth to get the phone when I port in.
There is no requirement to continue the plan after 3 months.
I can close the account at that point and keep the phone. But if I stop paying after one or two months, it says I can be billed back for the phone.
Z: To maintain the promotional price for the iPhone 16e, you are required to stay on the $60 Unlimited plan for a full 12 consecutive months.
Downgrading to the $25 plan during months 2 or 3 is not permitted under the promotion terms. If you change or downgrade your plan before completing the 12 months, it violates the promotional agreement and will result in being billed the full retail price difference for the phone.
Is there anything else I can help you with today aside form the promo terms?
ME: That is not listed in the terms for this promotion. Can you link me to that?
Z: https://help.boostmobil
ME: Here are this promotion's terms at checkout:
By checking this box I agree to e-transaction/e-signature, Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions. Once activated I authorize Boost Mobile to automatically charge my card monthly for my Boost Mobile services, taxes and surcharges. My service will not begin until my SIM is activated. If I do not activate my Device(s) on Boost Mobile within 30 days of purchase, I may be charged the full MSRP of the Device(s) (less my purchase price), if applicable, to the card used today or any alternative method. If I am purchasing a discounted Device and do not maintain service on the activated line for a minimum of three months, I will owe the full MSRP (less any amount already paid).

Z: Is there anything else I can help you with today aside from the promo deals?
ME: Yes. read that
Z: I read it
So, as mentioned the terms that I provided are the promo terms
Would there be anything else that we can further help you out with today?
ME: I do not see what you are talking about in your link yet. Where is it?
Z: in the link
ME: Let me check it please
There is nothing like what you quoted in that link.
That link is pertaining to multimonth offers.
Not discounted phones.
Since I would only be paying for one month to get the phone shipped and the terms say I need to stay active for 3 months. It appears I could change the plan because it is only a one month plan.
This is not a multimonth plan. But the discount requires 3 months of service. Not 3 months of $60 service plan.
Z: All promotional requirements are governed by our Terms & Conditions. If you choose to proceed based on your own interpretation, that is entirely your choice.
However, please be aware that our system will simply not allow you to change or downgrade the plan on this promotion—the option is restricted. Furthermore, if you decide to cancel service, the device will remain locked to Boost Mobile and cannot be unlocked.
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
ME: This should be brought to the attention of someone who can answer me.
Z: I already did.
Would there be anything else that we can further help you out with today?
ME: Can you put in a request?
Z: sadly we do not have that in the system
you can chat with as many agent as you like, they will all give the same answer
ME: Okay thanks for doing what you could to guess.
Z: our number is 833-502-6678
I assure you you will get the same answer
ME: Great. Thanks
Z: Is there anything else I can help you with today aside from the 16e promo terms?
ME: No.

Note: It does mention that you may lose the promotional offer, so iffy.
Still no reason to interpret that as you will lose the phone's promotional price discount, as the offer was only for one month at $60.
I would certainly try to switch plans during month 1 to $25 for months 2-3. Just don't know if it would flag them to retroactively charge for the retail price of the phone.
IF I were to attempt this offer, I would certainly use a virtual credit card with commensurate monthly limits. Then if they tried, I may have the leverage to fight the bill, but for $70, it might not be worth it if they turn it over to a collection agency and ding your credit, while technically breaking their own stated terms!
I'd suggest screenshots of the terms for any action you may need to take for a fight. I am passing on this offer, as it is not worth it to pay $30 (phone) + $180 (plan). It can be found cheaper elsewhere.
Nor is it worth it to me to fight about the $70 difference if they won't let me downgrade plans.
