Is it worth the potential hassle, or would you just go directly with another carrier even if it costs a little more?

Lyca Mobile stands out for very cheap plans with usable data, especially for a second line or a number you do not rely on every day. The 18GB plan is described as fast enough for everyday use, and after the high speed data is gone, speeds reportedly drop to about 3 Mbps, which still works well. Taxes are low, and the online account can show the account number and transfer PIN for porting. The main drawbacks are recurring billing and support headaches, with reports of blocked payments, slow replies, and difficult port outs that can put a number at risk.
Travelers who want a cheap data-only eSIM, because the plan can be paired with a separate travel eSIM while keeping calls and texts on another line.
Drivers who need occasional navigation data, because maps can be downloaded ahead of time and traffic-free GPS still works without a live connection.
Light-data phone users who can live with slower speeds after the allowance, because throttled service can still be usable at about 3 Mbps.
People who want a low-cost second line for a new number, because it worked well for several months as an eSIM line.
People who need fast customer support or easy cancellation, because replies can take weeks and billing can continue after cancellation attempts.
People who need reliable porting out of their main number, because account transfer can fail and leave the number in limbo or lost.
Families or caregivers setting up a line for someone else, because port-out and support hassles can make leaving the service difficult.
Drivers who rely on live traffic and continuous data in Android Auto or CarPlay, because offline maps lose traffic information and call/text-only service cannot supply it.

They will keep charging you. I got 3 months plan for my parents and had to cancel my card to get them off as they kept charging despite several emails and phone calls.
