Is it worth the potential hassle, or would you just go directly with another carrier even if it costs a little more?
Community Reviews
Lyca Mobile stands out for very cheap plans with usable data, especially for a second line or a number you do not rely on every day. The 18GB plan is described as fast enough for everyday use, and after the high speed data is gone, speeds reportedly drop to about 3 Mbps, which still works well. Taxes are low, and the online account can show the account number and transfer PIN for porting. The main drawbacks are recurring billing and support headaches, with reports of blocked payments, slow replies, and difficult port outs that can put a number at risk.
Common Questions (5)
Log in to the Lyca online portal, then go to Manage Account and view the Account & Pin number section. The account number and NTP/transfer PIN are shown there after activation, so you usually do not need to call support to port out.
Porting out can be easy when the account number and PIN are available in the portal, and one user ported to Verizon instantly. It can also fail or stall, with reports of numbers going into limbo or needing FCC complaints to get the PIN, so it is safer to avoid using Lyca as your only line.
After the high-speed data is used up, Lyca reportedly throttles to about 3 Mbps. That speed is still usable for basic browsing and light app use, but it is much slower than full 5G.
The $5 roaming credit is monthly and lasts for a 30-day period. It expires after 30 days rather than accumulating, and the offer page links to the country list.
For new customers, Lyca is on AT&T rather than T-Mobile. Some users also report that the network switch changed service quality in their area.

I wouldn't recommend this company, especially if you're getting service for somebody else.

Can you switch to another carrier once the plan ends?

1) Lyca has switched to AT&T instead of T-Mobile, so the service has become significantly worse in my area.
2) It seems Lyca has blocked Privacy cards since the end of August. If you're planning to use one, you may get an error and have to switch to an alternative card to avoid being charged the full price for the renewal.

You can port out.

Then I use traveller esim of other company, it is $6 for 5 gig or $10 for 10 gig a month. I mostly use free WiFi from home or at library or business using VPN if I am nervous.
My plans are cheaper.
