There's a 250 lb per shelf weight capacity on these things. They are pretty damn sturdy. I have one that's probably loaded to at least double capacity and is holding everything needed. If you want a more level surface, find some free scrap wood on Facebook, or buy a single sheet of press or plywood, and cut to fit the shelves. This is a sturdy unit

Not officially. But with a little modification they can be. But they would be a tip hazard unless you mount them to a wall or something. I stacked them and screwed the top shelf to the wall using a pipe mount. To connect them together i used threaded rod i got at my local hardware store. You can take the feet off to get a thread size. Do at your own risk. Smilie

If you picked up the costco shelves that look like this, know that this has similar dimensions, but not a similar build. I have both and this one can't handle the same load that the costco versions can hold. It is also half the price, so it makes sense. This one basically has lighter weight and smaller dimension parts all the way around, but otherwise has similar overall dimensions. Just enough that it triggers my mild OCD tendencies that it doesn't match the other shelves in the garage... that said, I've had no troubles with this shelving unit.

I bought 2 of these units if you're looking for 5 shelves. I think the brand name was Super Tough at that time. https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/758640951
