Definitely a should-have for any toolbox, especially if you ever plan to even just swap an old outlet. And to double-check all your GFCIs, especially if they're old or it's a rental.

I have something similar (different manufacturer, same functionality/light patterns). Definitely worth it. You don't need the extra fancy model with an LCD screen to tell you what's going on, and also requires AA batteries for the screen.

Metal appliance can electrocute you and surge protector won't work

You can install a GFCI outlet in that spot and it'll protect you. It doesn't need ground but still no surge

Don't forget a non-contact voltage detector. I have two random switches with no known light or outlet. I'll see if I can track it down, because my landlord has owned this building since it was built in '84, but his daughter that was born around the same time, same as me, needs help with pulling the battery from the lawnmower. (Helped as a bargaining chip for having the kids stay for two weeks.) She didn't understand how to clean or replace the air filter or prefilter.

Nope, that one is RT110, which does not have the GFCI tester. RT210 at Home Depot is $14.97
