I have this and have never had a problem with input lag. The battery life is pretty good in my limited experience, and the lack of usb c port in the middle of the controller is a must for people who want to put their phone/tablet in different orientations. The real issue I have with it is that two of my controller's magnetic face buttons fell off somehow and the only way to get replacements is to buy them for ~$25 on Etsy. Gamesir doesn't offer any official ones.
Check out GameNative and Gamehub if you haven't. Those apps let you play PC games from your Steam/GOG/Amazon library on your Android device. It's very hit and miss, but a lot of 2D (like Hollow Knight Silksong, Cuphead) and lightweight 3D games (Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas) work well on modern Snapdragon chips.
GameSir G8 Plus is a full size telescoping mobile controller that feels solid and works well for phones, tablets, and cloud gaming. It fits foldables, an 11 inch iPad, and even a Samsung Tab S7 with the case on, while the Hall effect sticks, gyroscope, swappable buttons, and comfortable grip make it appealing for emulation and on the go play. USB C support and the bottom port help with wired use and different orientations. The main drawbacks are Bluetooth latency in some games, occasional button placement quirks, and a firmware change that broke DS4 mode until a downgrade.
Emulation players who want lower latency, because wired USB-C use avoids Bluetooth lag and emulator input delay is less noticeable.
It works with foldables and can fit an 11-inch iPad in some setups, including with a Samsung Tab S7 case left on. The opening width may still be too small for some larger tablets, but a 3D-printed extender can be used if you accept the warranty risk.
Yes. The controller can connect by USB-C to a console, and the USB-C port is on the bottom rather than the side. Wired use avoids Bluetooth latency and is the better choice if input lag matters.
It can lag depending on the game: emulator titles may feel fine, while FPS, racing, and sports games can show about 0.03 seconds of delay. Bluetooth audio lag on Android can also be noticeable, so wired use is preferable for latency-sensitive play.
The controller feels nice and has good battery life, but the two buttons directly under the D-pad are easy to press accidentally. It also lacks a centered USB-C cutout, which helps when using phones or tablets in different orientations.
A firmware update can break the DS4 button combo, and downgrading to firmware 2.18 reportedly restores it. That makes the latest firmware a risk if DS4 mode matters to you.
Which fold? I'm thinking about grabbing for an upcoming iPhone Duo. Looks like it doesn't open wide enough for an 11" iPad or I'd try that too.
You can mod it yourself, better with a 3D printed component, for example this one: https://www.printables.com/model/...ets-new-v8 if you are okay with kissing your warranty goodbye, of course.

Thanks! Just ordered for my Fold8 Ultra. I've never really done Mobile gaming before, but this fold-out screen is just too good to not try it out. I've landed on getting both the G8 Plus and the X5 Lite. The G8 plus has physically swappable buttons for my emulation playing, but the trade-off is dealing with Bluetooth and keeping it charged (my controllers are going to be sitting in the car because my intent is just on the go gaming). And the GameSir X5 Lite is for the more regular playing of PC or Xbox with my preferred USB-C plug and play. Now to figure out emulation - the main game series I want to do on here is Fire Emblem

Why get a wrap around controller then just use laggy bluetooth, and you have to worry about charging it? The original G8 uses type C. I do wish the original G8 had the d-pad up top instead of the thumb stick.
