Silly things your pets did today thread

i know there's a things your dog ate today thread but i though we need this too.

there's a bunch of things to share that puppy chloe does every day!

today she somehow got the bread loaf off the counter top in the kitchen. she likes to chew up anything paper or plastic. she was starting to rip apart the plastic and left the bread alone.

i had tethered her to the table outside borders when i went in for coffee. i came out and she somehow got one leg out of her harness. i mean, this harness is getting small on her so it's not loose at all!

she's either a genius playing dumb all the time or has someone help her do those things.

Dontknow

I took this one today. (18.5 months) I was trying to get a nice shot to put on a coffee mug. I was kind of hoping for a full body standing picture. As I was trying to take them -- it occurred to me. I always do a sit/stay or a down/stay. Never a just stand there and look pretty/stay.

DH was working in his home office. When he got up from the desk and turned around he saw the door was open, even though he had pulled it to on the way in. Then he sees our female cat sitting on a half full case of Popchips in the corner so he starts to walk over to her. Well something about him moving in her direction startled her, which cause her to panic and she started to run away. Only problem is she fell through the box and landed on top of the Popchips, which freaked her out even more. She then made a very ungraceful exit from the room. laugh out loud

She sure is pretty!

Say, do you ever have problems with her ears? Mine gets ear gunk and he really hates to have his ears cleaned.

Thanks. Yeah, hers get gunky too, one more than the other. I use a baby wipe to clean it out. I just stick my finger in there with the wipe and root around. Now, I just show her the wipe and she hops up on the bed. But, when I come at her with salve or anything else she bury her head under the pillows.

Is he just gunky or does he get infections? I have a couple recipes if he gets infections.

My 14 month old puppy Oreo dug a hole under our backyard fence and our neighbors new puppy that they got for Christmas came through it and ended up in our yard. He looks like a black lab/dachshund mix, Oreo is a black lab/APBT mix. My mom went to let him in and saw two dogs sitting at the door, it was like they did a Shawshank Redemption lol!

Oreo won't go anywhere near their other dog, or even my cousins dog, but he'll run along the fence and try to play with their new puppy, he made a friend.

Same with mine. He doesn't mind so much when I wipe his ears, but when I try to get the ointment in there, he hides his head.

Well the vet said it was some sort of yeast infection. It's that black gunky stuff. It comes and goes, but sometimes it really bothers him, he'll rub his ears with his paws, or rub his head on his bed and make grunting noises.

I feel bad for him, but he really just wont let me get the medicine in there. He sees the tube and runs! laugh out loud

I took the easy way and copied the recipe from somewhere else. (I would tell ya where, but I don't know. It's all over dog sites.) Since the tubes all come in different sizes. I squirted the smallest tube into measuring spoons to see how much of the others to use. Whichever was the smallest equaled 2 tablespoons.

It is cheaper than the vet stuff. I think Heidi's last tube of Otomax was $13 and we have a vet that will just let you stop and buy it, no appt. required. And it does seem to work. Monistat is for yeast infection and the Cortaid stops the irritating itch immediately.

Plus, I think it's easier to get in there. I just reach in the container and put a little blob on my finger and stick my finger down her ear and rub, then she makes happy noises. You could also get a syringe like for giving babies medicine and put it in that to stick in and squirt, but I think the finger freaks them out less.

Healthy Ear Salve Recipe

1 tube Monistat (generic is fine)
1 tube Polysporin (use the real deal - it's inexpensive)
1 tube Cortaid (generic works here as well)

Use tubes of similar size. Mix all three together in a container that can
be closed well. It takes a bit to incorporate because the Polysporin is a
bit like Vaseline. Once incorporated, it stays mixed.

If ears are gunky, inflamed or smell bad, start with using a pea sized
dollop twice a day. Use your finger to gently push it into the ear. Rub.
Dogs will only shake their heads once or twice! It's a creamy, very
soothing mixture. Once you have the ears under control, lessen how often you use it till you're only using it once a week. Once a week keeps ears from getting bad again.
=================================================================================================
Once again, shamelessly copied from elsewhere, but again, it's all over the internet.

Blue Power Ear Treatment

INGREDIENTS:
16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol (Witch Hazel can be used also)
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%
Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder.

Shake the bottle each time before using. Flood the ear with solution (gently squirt bottle), massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue. Flood again on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. The dog will shake out the excess which can be wiped with a tissue, the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics.

SCHEDULE OF TREATMENT
Treat 2x per day for the first week to two weeks depending upon severity of ears
Treat 1x per day for the next 1-2 weeks
Treat 1x per month (or even less frequently, depending on the dog)

All of these ingredients should be available at a pharmacy. The Boric Acid Powder soothes the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. The solution appears to work well on any and all ear problems from mites to wax to canker. After the second or third you can clean out the ear with a Q-tip or cotton balls. Their success rate for this treatment is 95-99%. Those who do not succeed have usually not done the treatment long enough or have not been regular about it.
=============================================================================================

Be sure and notice that the Gentian Violet stains fabric and as the name suggests, it's violet. I have some mixed and it didn't seem to bother her -- anymore than squirting anything in her ear would. I don't use it because of the staining issue. I have new living room carpet that is off white. I might use it in the summer when I can shut her out in the yard for a while if I think she needs it. But, the salve has been working and it doesn't stain. I haven't even noticed that she is rubbing it on stuff after it kind of melts into her ear and I have specifically watched for that. I think this might be kind of a good rinse after being at the lake. If you look in the cake decorating aisle at Wal-Mart they have a two pack of plastic bottles with a squirter tip for a couple bucks. They work well.

Goofy dog doesn't swim, seriously, she goes in a little above her belly but not much more - you know, just enough to get really wet. She can swim, she stepped off where it was a whole 3' deep once and swam back in but she doesn't like it.laugh out loud But she absolutely loves the water though. Now, what kind of GSD doesn't swim?

She isn't going to be very happy with me today. shake head We've really got to get her nails done. I have a bag of treats, a rotary tool and extra sanding drugs ready to go.

Thanks! That sounds like it will work great. I'll get everything together this weekend.

The Otomax is what the vet gave me for him, but like I said he hates to see that tube.
I think this will work better for him seeing that it has the hydrocortisone in it.

Oh and he also really hates getting his nails done too.

Monk was begging for a cracker today. I had a baggy with a few crackers in it on my desk and he kept pawing the bag, trying to get one. I finally had to put down a paper towel and feed him a cracker. He's very messy but just loves them. He's a cat btw. Crazy
