Furthermore, the products are not truly free for Vine reviewers as there is a taxable value that counts the product as income reported to the IRS by Amazon. You are required to file it in your tax return annually as you will receive a 1099-NEC form to file. Furthermore, these "free" items are often listed at a higher price to vine reviewer than the regular store price. At best you get the Items at a "discounted" price because you pay the value of the item as taxable income. For example, an $60 item sometimes are listed as $100 taxable value to vine reviewers so we would pay the income tax of $100 when we file our taxes.

As a vine reviewer I disagree with your assessment that we need to give favorable reviews in order to continue to receive products. We are free to give negative reviews of items without penalty and it is encouraged by the vine program to provide honest reviews, even negative ones. I have given plenty of negative reviews for products that performed poorly or fell short on expectation. That said, there are some lazy reviewers that just give generic AI generated reviews and/or give above average assessment for a product that is just good enough, so you do have to read the reviews with a grain of salt. If there is an issue with a product there would be plenty of honest Vine reviewers who would point it out, so there would be obvious red flags if the product is underperforming or just plain bad.
Furthermore, the products are not truly free for Vine reviewers as there is a taxable value that counts the product as income reported to the IRS by Amazon.
